I have been working at Greene King full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

An opportunity to lead your own business and be your own boss day to day. A way of life experience and extremely enjoyable.

    Cons

Work/life balance is difficult at times, high expectations from above to 'perform' Lots of plate spinning and blame culture when it doesn't go well. Lots of plates to spin at all times

    Advice to Management

Labour savings constantly- This is not the best way to inspire teams to perform. Bonus structure complicated and mostly unachieveable

I have been working at Greene King full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easily the best company I have ever had the privilege to work for. The people are what make the company great, from the very day I started I have been made to feel welcome and continue to do so as I meet new people across the business.

Flexible working has really helped now that I have a young daughter, but the trust from my seniors that the work will get done without having to play big brother on my every move means that I can concentrate on meeting the deadline and boosts my loyalty to the business.

    Cons

As with every business, especially of this size, we'll go through some tough and negative times. I was part of an amazing team of like minded talented individuals who I still miss not being around, that has been really difficult.

However, the process was inevitable, and Greene King's HR team put together some really useful and supportive classes to help people get people into jobs elsewhere (including competitor businesses) and ensure they had the best opportunity to continue their career. I still keep in touch with the team, and they're all happy and doing well.

    Advice to Management

Embrace the digital frontier and keep communication short, sweet and regular. I appreciate the trust that I will produce outstanding work more than anything else you have to offer. Trust your team and ask for their input, they aren't tools after all, so don't treat them as such.

I have been working at Greene King full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

All of the usual perks that come with working within a bar, reasonable discounts and getting to work with like minded people to name a few.

    Cons

Low pay and very open to being taken advantage of by upper management. Often feel as though you are doing jobs/performing roles that are beyond the responsibilities that you are being paid for.

    Advice to Management

Very important to appear to lead from the front in your role. You need your team behind you and if you aren't seen to be getting your hands dirty yourself then they'll struggle to respect you.
