    Doesn't Recommend

I have been working at Greenhill & Co. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Work life balance.
    Nice group of people.
    Decent pay.
    Decent benefits.

    Cons

Almost no 401k package for an investment bank, that is shameful.

    Pros

Strong M&A work experience, intelligent people, fast paced environment

    Cons

Deal flow is cyclical, a lot of office politics, cliquey, not a place where analysts stay past 2-3 years

I worked at Greenhill & Co. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great culture, as far as investment banks are concerned. Hard work from analysts seemed to be greatly appreciated and there were lots of opportunities for meaningful interaction with senior bankers. Pay and buy side placement was top notch!

    Cons

Due to the small nature of the firm, the experience one gets as an analyst is heavily dependent on the current M&A environment. It's not uncommon to go several weeks without working on anything that was relatively live.

    Advice to Management

One potential option to improve the experience of first year analysts when deal flow is light would be to pair them up with second year analysts working on live transactions in a supporting role.

I worked at Greenhill & Co. (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very relaxed culture within this group which sits outside of traditional M&A team. Gym in the building and not much face time.

    Cons

A lot of back channeling amongst senior management
Not a lot of transparency to junior ranks of the business
    No third year retention

    Advice to Management

Overall good culture created but focus on stock is apparent to junior analyst without much insight into thoughts about the future of the business

    Pros

Small deal teams, flat organization, minimal bureaucracy, strong sense of pride, collaborative environment. You will get great deal experience and plenty of opportunity to step up to play a meaningful role.

    Cons

Limited infrastructure given focus on efficiency and profitability. Has struggled somewhat the last few years as a public company in low M&A activity environment. Unproven path to partner, very few junior bankers who join make it to managing director.

    Pros

    Smartest people in the business

    Cons

Hard to advance. Greenhill's model is to hire senior people from outside and have juniors work for them.

    Advice to Management

    Start promoting from withing.
