I worked at Greenhill & Co. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great experience as an analyst at Greenhill. Worked with tons of smart people at all levels. Enjoyed focusing on M&A and restructuring. Had a few options for investment banks to work for but primarily selected Greenhill for it's company culture.

    Cons

Brand name not as strong as GS/MS outside of Wall Street. Independent advisory model has some competitive disadvantages to investment banks with balance sheet.

    Pros

Sustainable culture, top notch experience, best-in-class exit opps

    Cons

    Finance culture (self-interested, sacrificial), hit-or-miss experience deal-wise

    Advice to Management

Couldn't be better for a bank.

    I worked at Greenhill & Co. full-time

    Pros

If you want to, you can learn a lot. Especially if you work alongside someone who is willing to communicate how things work. If you care about what you do, there is plenty of it to do and the relationships you foster because of your work ethic will have team members gravitate towards you. Everyone is friendly. Summers were nice and sleepy. I felt like

    Cons

-There is no getting away from the difficult, screamy or email-every-minute-client for the next two years when they come with the next deal that was signed up.
-Lots of internal departures, that's just how this business is. So there is no real fostering of one-on-one EA to an Executive feeling, if that's what you are looking for.
-Expense reporting is tedious! The expense system has multi-levels of deal codes per category and that is just for one receipt! Get ready to spend an hour on one report in data entry alone (sometimes bankers would split one receipt a few different ways).
-Administration kept EA's that were bad apples (despite files that were thick with complaints) for too long which made the good apples go sour as well.

    Advice to Management

Be mindful of the message you send to valued team members when you do not include them on group lunches or team retreats. A yearly raise in their salary isn't the only thing that makes an employee feel appreciated.

    Pros

Awesome culture and people; stand-out investment bank in terms of quality of people, cross-office collaboration, and analyst compensation

    Cons

I don't have any real cons for this opportunity - perhaps more ability for analysts to stay past their two year commitment.

    Pros

solid boutique investment bank with bulge bracket name recogniation on Wall Street
good deal flow and high quality, smart co-workers

    Cons

tough work / life balance (as expected in investment banking)
small firm leads to uneven deal flow for the professionals

    Advice to Management

slow down the hiring pace of Managing Directors and the expansion of offices. Focus on adding a few quality MDs vs. adding a large number.
