I have been working at Greenlee Textron full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I've been with Greenlee for almost months now in a rotational program.

Great starting and ending salary for the program. Promised experience in other fields of the department that include warehouse visits, trade-shows and shadowing of different departments.

    Cons

Upper management has extremely poor communication. They are many restrictions on the young professionals seeking experiences in their first rotation. It feels more like being a full time CSR than it does a rotational program. Feedback is asked and received but rarely ever acted on. The training was extremely too long and seemingly noneffective. Resources are limited in continuous training and managers are more focused on their performance numbers versus feeding energy into their newly hired grad. students and motivated employees. The department in the first 12 month rotation drains the ambition, enthusiasm and motivation to seek new opportunities and ultimately kills the interest to want to continue the remainder of the program.

    Advice to Management

Make sure training resources are up to date and readily available. Verbally motivate and recognize your employees for all they do in other ways than email. Use physical meetings as formal sources of communication versus a plethora of emails when important changes that affect the daily operations take place. Be receptive to change when it renders positive feedback from the staff.

I worked at Greenlee Textron full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I started in customer service and received a great promotion to a different department after every year. Salary increase with new job title was very good. Moving on to a different Textron company is one of the biggest pluses Greenlee can offer a person, take the transfer, don't stay in Rockford!

    Cons

Annual raises are not good, no more than 3% every year, more than that is impossible. Like most of the other reviews have said, upper management is terrible. They will listen to you, but do nothing more than that so dont expect any good changes to happen at Greenlee.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people that handle the day to day operations..they have great ideas because they actually know what is going on.

I worked at Greenlee Textron full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunity for new grads with high drive and ambition to move up quickly. Lots of things to be fixed in every area makes for plenty of opportunities to shine. It's what you make it.

    Cons

Most of the executive staff is too inexperienced to be capable of making well informed decisions. Feels more dictatorship than democratic. Some functional areas have managers and directors that are obviously more capable than the VP to whom they report. This unfortunately leaves everyone in the chain a general feeling of dysfunctional chaos and sometimes just plain unmotivated.

    Advice to Management

If you want to fully develop new grads you need to provide them with some truly experienced people to mentor them for more than a 6 month rotation. Too many times they are being trained by someone who was there a year ago. That person was also trained by someone else of the same level of experience. To top it off, unfortunately, that person's boss has no experience cause he's the 3rd person in that job in the past 3 years and likely reports to an inexperienced new VP.... The chain reaction keeps getting worse, not better.

I worked at Greenlee Textron as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great Intern program and meaningful work. They generally kept interns busy with work and had some great additional events.

    Cons

Some projects seemed to be menial tasks that weren't too planned out. Surrounding area isn't the greatest place to be

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up

    Pros

The company is going through a lot of changes and growing. There are many learning opportunities more than ever to make change for the better.

    Cons

The location is not the great. The closest thing for entertainment is making a trip to Chicago. Though you will be moved from location to location.

I worked at Greenlee Textron part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Not too much. I think I made a bad decision by going there.

    Cons

Management employees work just to show their work and does not care about whether they are useful or not. I higher management has little control over how the strategic projects are being executed. Engineers are recruited from nearby universities and sometimes they lack the skill to do their job properly. Some of them goes by the name manufacturing engineers and do not know manufacturing properly.

    Advice to Management

Improve your intern hiring and training setup. Most of your employees are former interns and hence improving that would help you get better people.

I worked at Greenlee Textron as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great atmosphere. Very young company with lots of activities outside of work. Very laidback but also very productive. Treats interns with respect and responsibilities of full-time employees.

    Cons

Not enough senior engineers to learn from and lead the company. Could use more expertise, especially in the smaller and newer fields of engineering.

    Advice to Management

Hire more senior software and computer engineers.

I worked at Greenlee Textron full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good compensation, corporate opportunities give a wide variety of potential for advancement. Good brand image - viewed as a premium. Pretty good environment and HR works hard to offer events and activities for the employees

    Cons

Rockford for one but housing is reasonable and the parks are nice. Managment cannot seem to find good leadership. They manage without a vision and they pass down goals without the support to achieve them. Morale is mediocre at best as the business flounders. Competition is stealing the market and they continue to press forward without a strategy to win or the support to execute the few good ideas that come around.

    Advice to Management

Pick a strategy and provide the resources. Dumping resources into a single product and neglecting the big picture draws more away from developing a category.
