    Negative Outlook

I worked at Greenspring Retirement Community part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Attractive looking facility and grounds.

    Cons

Lack of respect and autonomy from management. Understaffed, mediocre salaries. Excessive red tape, politics and documentation requirements that significantly subtract from the time spent with residents. Managers who are not qualified to be managing the things that they are. Negative reinforcement given by certain managers to boost their own low egos.

    Advice to Management

Remove dietary department management and replace with a people who are more knowledgable, more professional, show respect and positivity towards employees and co-workers. Dietary department should be managed by a registered dietitian who is knowledgable in both the food service AND clinical nutrition area. Educate managers on the importance of providing positive reinforcement, respect and autonomy to their employees.
Change the top-heavy aspect of upper management/executives so there don't have to be so many financial cuts for things that directly affect residents.

    Pros

Great work culture, you can make a difference in someone's life, good schedule and work-life balance. This is the first time in my career that I have ever felt part of a team.

    Cons

Not really a negative mark for myself, but advice to others. The work can be demanding in a mental sense. Given the population we work with, it's not always the easiest. Understanding your own strength, patience and drive to care for others will really determine how far you want to go at Greenspring.

Wonderful residents, caring employees, friendly and welcoming community. Because of the large size of the community, there are a lot of services available and opportunities to collaborate.

    Cons

It can sometimes be hard to get things accomplished because of number of departments/employees involved and turnover.

    Pros

Working on your own time and you do not have someone breathing down your back. Getting to know the residents and listening to their life stories.

Getting schedules the day before work.
