I have been working at GreySpark full-time

    Pros

GreySpark has a strong culture in terms of ideas and knowledge sharing. People have the opportunity to contribute, to be challenged intellectually and to learn, leading to a natural tendency towards thought leadership and being in step with the current (and future) challenges that our clients have to contend with. GreySpark is an international firm with a client-centric approach and is able to successfully partner...

    Cons

Although GreySpark has a comprehensive career ladder framework which caters for people that can progress via a "Management / Commercial" track or an "Expert" track, continued investment in helping people to think of themselves as a "business owner" and not just an "employee" will help to define the mentality of whether people embrace the opportunity with GreySpark as a business opportunity as opposed to just a day job.

    Advice to Management

Break down the long term objectives in to manageable short term targets on a more rigorous basis, aligned to specific regions. (Each region tends to be at a different stage of corporate development to the others, so a one size fits all rule book does not always work).

I worked at GreySpark full-time for less than a year

    Pros

They provide benefits and the Head of HR is understanding.

    Cons

The partners have come from telecommunications and try to win projects in financial services, with no real expertise. The managers they assign are awful, with a selfish attitude. The Partners don't even present themselves in a professional manner. No real leadership or strategy to the firm. They keep employees on projects just for the sake of making money.

    Advice to Management

Stick to trying to win projects in your actual field of expertise.

Dear former colleague, thank you for another interesting review that contains two truths, one mistake, one slur and one misconception. First, the truths: - it is absolutely true that our head of HR is a fantastic person who deeply cares about all our colleagues - and that ...

I worked at GreySpark full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Nothing. One of the worst "small" companies I have come across.

    Cons

Often hires people based on who knows who, rather than merit and talent. I was promised projects that were more aligned to my interests, however, any projects these amateurs get are mundane and not challenging in the slightest. Staff on the whole are not the most experienced or even knowledgeable. Salary and benefits are lower than competitors and they only seem to promote a very small select few who they favour.

    Advice to Management

Hire some real talent, get some good projects under your belt and be more honest with the type of works that your firm offers

I have been working at GreySpark full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

GreySpark is my 2nd longest service out of all the diverse firms I have had the pleasure to work in the longest was 8 years. I started with GreySpark with a mindset that I wanted to bring my experience into a firm I could help develop their business. It was very important to me to feel counted and recognised, because I did not want to be just one 'ant' out of the 100's 1000's all trying to make a difference. GreySpark...

    Cons

I recognise that not everyone has the same ambitious goals and they depend on managers not to lead but to guide them. Like with many firms it is very difficult to create a culture and maintain it that provides the elements to inspire people, expand their thinking, and learn to develop themselves a realisation their current skills and capabilities are a building block to bigger and better things. Simple concept, hard to...

    Advice to Management

GreySpark could themselves learn a great deal from seeking out external advice on the development of a 'professional working culture'. We can then implement this to help new starters in particular to learn to excel for themselves. I am sure the tools and techniques are out there and even if we took just 1% of it, adjust our processes to adopt, we should be able to reap the benefits by creating a new breed of super talented...

    Pros

Some genuinely nice and smart people but not too many left.

    Cons

There are a lot - lack of vision, lack of transparency, no communication, the comapny misleads employees/potential employees about earning power/career growth - but Ill give the big one: GreySpark sent out an email announcing that redundancies would be started the next day at work….there hadn’t been any warning beforehand. Yet the next morning, new candidates were being interviewed in the office while long-term GreySpark...

    Advice to Management

Hire Management who cares. HR could not make it clearer that senior employees are the only ones that matter and they do everything in their power to reinforce that. Wrongdoing - including serious allegations that should not just have seriously alarmed management but also been handled properly according to GreySpark's own policy - are swept under the rug. Clearly they don't take their own rules seriously and you are...

I have been working at GreySpark full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I would never write a review like this normally, but some of the past reviews are spiteful, untrue and are from employees who have rightfully been let go. -The company is a true meritocracy and entrepreneurial environment, where you can learn from some true though leaders of the financial services sector. - The company is very well respected within its client base and are industry leaders when it comes to electronic...

    Cons

I am not saying that everything about the company is perfect, but I believe that the structural issues that hindered the company have been fixed. People who want things to be handed to them on a plate won't progress quickly, but I don't necessarily think that is a bad thing. Hard work is rewarded.

    Advice to Management

Keep going and believing in what you do.

    Pros

Open-door policy gives junior staff the opportunity to get access to senior members of staff easily. Mutual respect between senior and junior staff. Innovative and challenging. Great work-life/life-work balance as long as you are efficient. Dynamic environment.

    Cons

More flexible working schedule could be encouraged (WFH/flexitime).

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work & encourage staff more to maximise their potential.

I have been working at GreySpark full-time

    Pros

The company is built upon strong ethics, with a strong vision for both business and staff development. Everyone in the firm has the opportunity to develop themselves and progress. The firm has some great client relationships who are strong supporters of GreySpark. There is diversity in the organisation - from research, to advisory and pure management consulting - which helps foster and grow client engagements....

    Cons

At young firms there is always maturity required in processes and ongoing development. If you walk in to GreySpark expecting very clear process and structure you may be disappointed, however, there is opportunity for everyone to help shape the company as it grows - in the UK and globally.

    Advice to Management

Ignore the recent spate of updates that have been posted on GlassDoor; they are spiteful and reactive to an unfortunate situation and based on mostly unfounded or incorrect information that is designed to be disruptive. The company is in a great position built on strong client relationships with a strong project opportunity pipeline.

I have just been informed by a former colleague that Fred Ponzo, the managing partner, incorrectly accused me of writing previous reviews. Advice to Management

Advise Freddie to just go back to France. It is time to hang up his boots now. He lives in the past and is clueless about the present and how the banks work. His insolent behaviour cannot be blamed on his nationality as was done so by another Partner. Nationality is not an excuse to be a rude, sexist person. He cannot tell girls to ‘just shut up during meetings’ and ‘yap a little less’. I was not a Jack Russell that...

The company is on its way to liquidation. If you have a choice between killing yourself or working here, my only advice is 1 minute of pain is better than an eternity of suffering.

    Cons

This company is a complete joke, if you have recently applied don't waste your time. Honestly find something else. The partners are imbeciles and they are happy to interview and waste your time when they have no current projects in the pipeline. They are likely to offer you a job after 3 long interview rounds and then rescind your offer when they realize they can't afford to pay you. Office location is really bad, good...
