I have been working at Grimco full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

An educated person has no business working for this group. There are no opportunities for advancement and the "manager training" is just a ruse to make employees think they have options. The President sent an email indicating that HR send people to this training and I quote "Even though they will not be managers."

    Cons

The managers are overworked and react in abusive ways to their employees. There is no job security for anyone after five years. They cut long term employees to free up payroll. When you are "Let go" it is done over the phone, with zero notice. You are then told to leave immediately. This causes you to forfeit your vacation/PTO time. If you apply for unemployment, they deny it. Lastly, they hold a non compete over your head, even if you never signed one. If you dare to say goodbye to your customers, they threaten legal action.

    Advice to Management

Take a management 101 course. Treating people like a commodity is shameful!

I worked at Grimco full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The corporate office is very inviting when you go to train there.

    Cons

    - Understaffed and overworked.
    - As stated before, no plan for when people leave, and I had to work in the warehouse carrying heavy boxes for many afternoons.
    - No sick leave, minimal PTO. No work life balance, which is shocking since they ask a lot of young graduates to relocate for their positions.
    - Commission is an absolute joke. Based on your whole branch sales, not your personal sales.
    - Extremely micromanaged.
    - No room for growth- sales reps are all the same title, no tiers.
    - Not sales, customer service job- entering orders and answering the phone.
    - Strict 8 am - 5pm, though that didn't apply to my manager.

I have been working at Grimco full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    • You will learn a lot about sales and good habits for closing
    • You will become close to your co-wrokers

    Cons

    • Micro-Management
    • Very Politics based
    • If you are not working in the Midwest you will be underappreciated and forgotten
    • There are a lot of hard workers in your company who are not in the Midwest
    • Closing deals and bringing in big numbers are not as important as your relationship with your manager
    • High executives are great people who are sincerely nice. Regional managers and branch managers are usually uneducated newbies who have been placed in the management position for the 1st time and don’t know what they’re doing or how to manage people and have been placed there due to their relationship with the executives

    Advice to Management

    • There are a lot of hard workers in your company who are not in the Midwest
    • Instead of focusing on all the negative things we do why not praise us for the positive things we do. Science proves positive reinforcement works better

I worked at Grimco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Management training program allows for increasing responsibility, however the pay and benefits do not match the amount of energy and responsibility that they ask of you.

    Cons

You can be very secure (financially and organizationally) at Grimco but it takes about 6-8 years to get there. Until then they will treat you and pay you like college interns. They expect that all staff work through lunch, and shame those that don't. They offer ridiculously low PTO (5 days first year, 10 days after that) and this includes your sick time. I was very good at this job and did not feel appreciated until I gave my notice and was asked to stay.

I have been working at Grimco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a job.... they will drag fresh out of college students into this position.

    Cons

A day in the life of a Grimco employee is answering phones and taking orders over the phone in addition to meeting quotas of outbounds which happen to be fairly easy. I can't say there is room for growth or opportunities to move up and the compensation is par. This company is very much into fitting a mold and if you do not fit into that mold it is only a matter of time until they will let you know.

    Advice to Management

Invest in the work environment (computers, furniture and what not) and reward employees for a job well done.

I have been working at Grimco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you are new out of school and want to get into sales. It is an okay job.

    Cons

If you are smart and have any experience this is not the job for you. Must be a lemming!! Must like being controlled and micromanaged and must like not getting commission or bonuses.

    Advice to Management

    Don't try to be Walmart.
