Every year it gets worse and worse for a driver
Jul 10, 2020 - Truck Driver in Saint Louis, MORecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
They will typically let you work as much as you want
Cons
Mediocre pay for what we do. Every year they keep taking more and more from the drivers. Terrible health insurance for a nationwide company. This is the type of company that wants wants wants, but doesn’t want to give back to their drivers. Going on three years, And every year it gets worse to work for this company. They can’t keep terminal managers or drivers. They give drivers no sick days so they force the little bit of vacation time you get do use on sick days. They take the very small bonuses you get at any opportunity they can. They call it safety bonuses but in reality nine times out of 10 they will take your bonus even if it has absolutely nothing to do with safety at all. Extremely high turnover. This company has turned in extreme corporate. They have their hands in everything and it only benefits them.I highly recommend if you want to drive around a big liquid explosive do not come work for this company.
Continue readingThank you for the candid review. It’s disappointing to hear you’re dissatisfied working for Groendyke. I think it’s important to point out that Groendyke Transport’s average driver pay and benefits are competitive in the tank truck industry, which is one of the highest paying sectors of trucking in the country. Our turnover hovers around 40 percent consistently compared to the average turnover for the trucking industry of about 100 percent. That said, it’s important to us that all our employees feel heard and cared for, so we’d like to address your list of concerns. Please contact the Groendyke Talent Office at 580-234-4663 and ask for Holly McCormick, our Vice President of the Talent Office.

Should of come here first!
Feb 6, 2015 - Fuel Hauler in Grand Junction, Optional[CO]RecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Hauling fuel out of the Grand Junction, CO terminal for 3 months. Background: I came from the Gas Patch hauling crude oil (condensate) in the Colorado Rockies since 2011 and have driven OTR since 1996. I have worked for 8 different companies from large to small. So I know what it's like to feel as if you are 'just another replaceable PART of a power unit' and all the games that are played by dispatchers, management and other drivers. So, when I came to Groendyke Transport, it wouldn't take much to make me happy. Boy, was I surprised! I'm home every night! Long days have been 12 to 14 hrs and short ones have been 10 to 12 hrs. I'm home for dinner most nights. I asked for a day off 2 months in for some personal business and was immediately told yes. No complaining, no guilt trips, no making me regretting it latter. The pay is fare. I have earned more but was never home. I have earned less but was never home. You get the idea. The Office here in GJ is the best. For the first time with an employer, I feel we ALL work together as a team. I feel respected for my skills and I'm valued as a employee. My terminal manager is very approachable and speaks the truth. He does not regurgitate corp BS when you ask questions. They have managed to balance the needs of the job with the needs of the driver. I am very confident that this is the company I will retire from.
Cons
Out here on the Western Slope we are a small (comparatively) outfit. So we don't have all the new stuff. My rig has 650K plus (others have 750K plus) on it and my trailer looks like something out of a Mad Max movie. It's embarrassing sometimes when your loading next to a Maverick truck that looks like it's been detailed every weekend. Even during the winter. I wash mine every week and I can not even come close to the shiny rigs you see in the Groendyke videos. FYI: You get paid to wash your rig. I don't think Groendyke can fix this short of sending all new equipment out here because there is no pro wash here. Just our wash rack and it's a small market. However, My rig is serviced well and the shop is very responsive to fixing things.

Pros
There isn't any pros to working out of the Longview terminal for the Shreveport acid haul. Don't believe anything the terminal manager says. He's a liar. Do not join the Longview terminal for the acid haul because you will be disappointed.
Cons
The manager is a liar. He will look you in your face and lie. He said since the acid haul was a new account, we would be getting $200 guarantee a day until we got to going good. It was a lie. Some days I only made $81. But average is about $112. I can't provide for my family making that. He also lied about how much the loads would pay.

Great people, reliable equipment.
Nov 6, 2015 - Fuel Delivery Driver in Grand Junction, CORecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Home every night 95% of the time. Reliable workload and safe working conditions. High level of responsibility is necessary if you like being part of a team of drivers that are true professionals.
Cons
Sometimes workload can be exhausting and troublesome but when I worked there, the shop manager was replaced and equipment became much better and more reliable. Not all terminals are managed well, but I had a fantastic manager and head dispatcher.

New Hire OTR Driver
Nov 8, 2013 - OTR Systems Driver in Lake Charles, LARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I ran across Groendyke about 5 months ago when I first started looking for work. I recently retired from the US Army and had driven years ago prior to rejoining the Army. Having previous OTR experience, I knew all too well how many vulture companies there are in the trucking industry. After a little research I decided that GTI would be my first choice in companies and applied. I was contacted by the local terminal managererer and talked to him for a few minutes. Unfortunately he felt that because I had not driven in so many years that he would not be able to hire me. After looking for a week or so I decided to take a CDL refresher course to make myself more employable. Of course the school works closely with all of the vulture companies that love to get their hands on green drivers so they can abuse and rob them blind. The last day of my refresher I emailed the terminal manager and asked him to please reconsider my application. I was very honest and humble. I explained that I wanted to work for a reliable company that placed safety at the top of their priorities. He then asked me to fax him a copy of my DD214 and CDL info. I interviewed with him the following week and took my physical the same day. My first day of work was Oct 21 I have spent about 9 days in the truck and have just returned from the company orientation in OK. Back in the 90's I drove for 3 companies in 5 years. I have never worked for a trucking company that puts so much emphasis on safety. Above all else this company truly operates based on very traditional values and to them safety is one of those values. Orientation was 3 days and was pretty typical. HUGE emphasis on safety. While everyone there was very friendly the trainers make it very clear that if you are not willing to use the Smith System that you do not belong at Groendyke. I have met and talked with most of the drivers from the terminal I hired on with and am yet to find a driver that feels the company does not care about their well being. Dispatchers will not ask a driver to do anything unsafe or illegal. Not even an insinuation that something needs to be done.
Cons
Still waiting to find a real one. The only thing that I can think of is that drivers tend to stay here for a long time so seniority is going to take a long time. There are more than 150 million mile drivers in a company of 900 or so. The terminal I work for is one of 4 that is privately own. The rest of the terminals are owned by the company. Because of that our trucks seem to be a little older than the rest of the fleet. But I really do not see this as a negative. The drivers I have asked say that if your truck needs something fixed it gets fixed. I would recommend this company to a friend without question.

Micromanage extreme
Dec 4, 2013 - Class A CDL Driver/HazMat Tanker in Enid, OKRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
GTI is a good company if you work in any division except for crude oil They take great care of there equipment and put saftey above common sence and push it to the point of stupidity.
Cons
Terminal managers treat there drivers like little children that havent the sence to come in out of the rain. Its nothing to be trucking on dry roads and get a call to find a safe place to park. And be told by a guy whos only trucking experience was a tonka toy growing up. If you haul crude oil be prepared to work for half price the going industry rate...its pretty sad when a company this big and hasnt but one old dinosaur that drums up business.. the dispatchers here play more games than fisher price if your not kissing were they sit you will sit all week in elk city they love the favorite game nothing at all fair about dispatch. Advancement in this company is not happening.. I feel sorry for guys who put in 20 years here I know I hope I'm not doing this in 20 years.

Was a real waste of my family time working for Groendyke Transport
Nov 14, 2013 - Truck Driver in Albuquerque, NMRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
After ten years with this company I can truly say that the only PRO to working for this company was the training. The longer you work for this company and the longer you work for them the less you gat in return
Cons
Job retention at the Albuquerque terminal is aimed toward new employees and kiss ass employees that become managers pets. They are hard to Respect as a company when they show very little or no respect for their employees and totally no respect or recognition of the families of employees
