I have been working at Grote Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company culture and the employees of Grote are what make the company such a pleasure to work for. Grote is a 100 year old, family-owned company that really values the family aspect of the professional culture. The Grote family is actively communicating and networking with the Grote employees and individuals within the community. The culture is considered to be a "work hard, play hard" type culture. Grote is a growing business with many goals that are achievable. But that means that the Grote employees must work hard to achieve those goals. When a goal is achieved, upper management makes sure to provide recognition when deserved and celebrate when necessary.

    Cons

Madison, IN is a small, quaint town with few stores and about an hour from a "big city." However, Madison has many festivals during the summer and fall that attract to many people of all ages. When I first moved to Madison, I missed living close to a Target store, but I soon become accustomed to the smaller town (and my bank account appreciates that). There are many bigger cities that are 50 minutes to 1 hour and 20 minutes away from Madison, such as: Louisville, Clarksville, Florence, Cincinnati, Columbus, and others.

    Advice to Management

Keep rewarding the hard working employees at Grote. They are what make the company great.

I worked at Grote Industries full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Technology-driven products and applications. High brand recognition in the Class 8 trucking and Heavy-Duty channels for marker and signal lighting. Very low recognition of head lamp systems.

    Cons

No clear focus on resources and global focus. Siloed management with no cooperative approach between divisions and sales teams. Grote family micro-manages business processes.

    Advice to Management

Diversify outside of Madison Indiana. Allow your managers to manage. Agree on and commit to a clear vision for the entire company and communicate it clearly to all employees.

I worked at Grote Industries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Their lightform division is useful for them tas a recruiting tool. They always have difficulties getting qualified Americans to work at a remote location and brand name. But they have been getting many immigrants to work at their low salary.

    Cons

9 years ago Grote Industries came across a technology called lightform which was innovative at that time. The company sank millions of dollars into that technology. 9 years past, the technology which seemed cutting edge then, is now an commodity item mass produced everywhere including China. However, Grote has not been able to sell much due to recurring quality issues. Mishaps like these are numerous. Company regularly markets products from Chinese companies in USA, under the brand name Grote (without any changes and at a huge mark up). There has been a mass exodus by top management, including 3 VPs, BDMs, Sr. managers , engineers etc. Except owners who seems clueless, everyone knows the situation.

    Advice to Management

Nepotism and politics need to be kept away from the company.

I worked at Grote Industries full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Most of the people you work with are great! I was in 1st shift molding and my boss was a great man! The work isn't too challenging and it is a set work schedule.

    Cons

This company has way too many employees who don't work and the ones who do get burnt out quick and with no advancement opportunities they quit.

    Advice to Management

The company does not fire people who do not work. It took them almost 4 months to get rid of a temp who did nothing! I feel that they need to re-evaluate who actually deserves to have a job. Make things fair and give your second and third shift people a chance at first shift jobs when your first shift people aren't working! Also stop requiring college degrees for jobs that do not need them!

Warehouse staff is very knowledgeable. Warehouse personnel takes great pride in their work. Benefits for the area are ok. Department is a very clean environment.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Get off your high horse. Learn accountabilty for your actions. 3 Middle Managers need replaced.
    Practice what you preach.

    Pros

HR Department is trying to bring around some old policies to attract more talent for the company. Good people, generally easy to talk to and laid back. Decent benifits

    Cons

Some managers delay projects longer than they need to be delayed, No growth or development plans to ensure you move up in the company instead of staying at the same position.
