I have been working at Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I enjoy the small company atmosphere. And I have enjoyed the actual work I do on a daily basis. I work on the administrative side. My encounters with the clinical side, as a patient, have been very positive.

    Cons

In order for me to do my job properly there is a need for concrete policies and procedures. These are lacking. And the information received is inconsistent. There's also a feeling on inappropriateness and resistance to change.

    Advice to Management

    Too much to write here.

    Pros

The pay was very good compared to other places. The benefits are good, but I was told they have declined since I quit.

    Cons

A lot of the fun benefits were taken away, like our yearly holiday party. Then they told us it would be every other year, but then they stopped that before it happened. Little outings like to Brewer games were also taken away. Managers don't appreciate their employees whatsoever.

    Advice to Management

It doesn't matter, they won't take it.

I have been working at Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin full-time

    Pros

Decent health insurance, but not great. Most of the people are nice to work. Most of the C level people are approachable and friendly.

    Cons

poor eye care insurance coverage and they don't contribute to retirement like they used to. Some micro management happening depending on department and manager.

I worked at Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Good Benefits
    - Great Co-Workers

    Cons

    - Managers are "grandfathered" into their position and don't have educational degrees (unless something medical is required)

    Advice to Management

    - Listen and engage your employees. They have great ideas!

I have been working at Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It feels good to say you work for the #1 HMO in the state and in the top 10 in the nation. Because GHC is non-profit its focus stays on the patients' and quality and assurance. The benefits are good, and they use a sliding scale to based on earnings as to how much you pay for the benefits. They take good care of their employees.

    Cons

Nothing comes to mind that stands out. Overall good place to work.

    Advice to Management

Give employees more vacation time. =D

    Pros

The most attractive thing about for working at Group Health is it's mission to provide affordable excellent healthcare. Great company with history of leading change in healthcare. Wonderful people to work with who care about what they do.

    Cons

There is too much micro management by upper management and a lack of empowerment and trust for managers and employees below the director level.

    Advice to Management

Continue LEAN work and make sure you "walk the talk"

  10. "People really care about each other and their community"

    Pros

Great people, very community-minded organization, good benefits, a strong focus on doing the right thing for customers and patients and each other. Employees form long-term friendships that extend past the workday. The company encourages & supports volunteerism.

    Cons

Fuzzy priorities and processes, lots of silo thinking, few career succession paths. E.g., an enterprise strategic plan was adopted 2 years ago and the last published update was 1 year ago. Individual departments or even teams adopt rules that hinder other workflows without any attempt at outreach or collaboration.

    Advice to Management

Learn transition management! You can't change the way things work by issuing a re-org email or publishing a policy. It takes real planning and time investment to educate people on the why/what/how of a shift in corporate priorities or methods.
