I worked at Group Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great pay, people believe in what they do, they work hard to keep their employees. I had a great boss and it was easy to become friends with coworkers. Salaried employees can enjoy freedom of when to arrive and leave. They strive to help their employees feel valued and grow professionally. Management is very open to suggestions for professional development including being able to take online learning during work hours as long as your work still is done. Generous vacation policy that grows each year of employment. Understanding about family life.

    Cons

Older company with traditional view of working enrivonment, this means they do not allow casual dress and are hesitant to embrace flexible schedules and working remotely. Especially challenging for a downtown Seattle company where people live far from work. Long commutes home meant people often did not socialize after work. It is an older workforce which can be hard for younger millenials.

    Advice to Management

Embrace modern trends to attract younger employees who may have innovative ideas.

I have been working at Group Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are many people at Group Health that care very much about the member experience. They went into health care for the right reason. It has been a great place to move around in and get experience of all sorts.

    Cons

The "care for people" and people strategy are lacking. Compensation is not fair among teams.

    Advice to Management

IF you truly want a company that cares about people, make sure that those in leadership positions know how to lead people and become a member-centric organization. Group Health tends to promote people on hard skill, but you need to keep in mind, that it is a service industry. The soft skills are even more important.

    Pros

Medical and health benefits are excellent. Company culture could be better.

    Cons

Company culture is a mix of the archaic and the future. There is plenty of old and outdated technology (MS Office 2010, MS-DOS), many long-term employees who are scared of and resistant to change, and lots of old and outdated ways of doing things that are inefficient but manage to remain. On the other hand, there has been a recent wave of new technology (Service Now, Tableau), new hires of younger generations and more forward-thinking companies and industries, and better ideas and more efficient ways of getting work done to provide the best care to GH's members. The problem has been getting new tech, new people, and new ideas to stick. Turnover is the highest for employees within their 1st year of employment at GH.

    Advice to Management

    Hang in there.

    Pros

The benefits are excellent which is why staff stick around so long.

    Cons

Dysfunctional managers seem to stick around too long.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to exit interviews of employees. They may be leaving due to management. Staff engagement surveys should address the issue of direct managers.

I have been working at Group Health full-time

    Pros

Great benefits, good pay, and reasonable PTO. It is a position that does not demand much therefore it isn't stressful, but you are getting paid well. Lots of positions open to move up the ladder.

    Cons

While other managers are wonderful, you can tell some managers/supervisors are overworked and burnt out so they aren't supportive of their staff. When this happens, details are missed, problems with staff in the department are glossed over, and we have little hope that our manager will help in a timely manner.

    Pros

Group Health offers Great Benefits, Family-work-life balance and good pay. Coworkers are friendly, helpful and kind.

    Cons

Management is not technical and often does not understand the work done by their staff. Conflicting priorities and changes in priorities can make the environment frustrating.

I have been working at Group Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People overall are nice and I have friends here at the organization. Benefits are good and I can't beat the work life balance, they seem to really take care of and care about their employees.

    Cons

I feel that folks, especially upper middle management folks who have been here long term (20+ years) tend to take advantage of company.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to schedules and call them out, its unfair to others who work hard and creates animosity for others who see this and especially as a double standard. I actually see folks that try to get away with not taking PTO when in reality they may be "working from home or offsite" but barely because only checking emails periodically. Where as other management folks take their PTO and still checks their emails. Its such a double standard, hypocrisy.
