I worked at Groupon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They understood that "life happens." There was ample time off, and they were fairly considerate when working with you through extraordinary circumstances.
Also, the rules for customer service were fluid, but the team did their best to keep it easy to follow. You could also make suggestions that could be implemented if you thought it out well enough beforehand.

    Cons

Unstable. The upper management either doesn't understand or can't be bothered to listen to the people working directly with their customers. I personally changed supervisors three times, and the third didn't get to know me enough to be of much support as I was trying to overcome a not-meeting-quotas probation.

    Advice to Management

Removing a large group of supervisors and quality-assurance reps - several who had been there the longest - doesn't give any appearance of job security.

I worked at Groupon full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Relaxed work environment
Lots of turnover so there is always room to grow.

    Cons

Very disorganized at all levels of the business.

Below is just on my experience working with their data.

If you work in data don't work here unless you have no other options. Their tech stack is 7 years old and is a complete mess. There is no organization among their tables, incredibly hard to understand their table structures and get basic pieces of info. You should not need to do 5-7 joins to get answers to basic order questions. If you have any questions about the data(integrity) or need to understand their ETL process you have to work with their EDW team, who is a complete disaster and has no organization. They use tableau which is a fine tool to pretty much just display excel sheets, a complete waste of an excellent product.

Weekly fire drills from management completely disrupting the work flow of other issues they have requested. Once complete there are questions on why other projects have not been completed. Little understanding on the difficulty of some of their requests. Few actual analysts among the managers who manage the analytical teams, so there is little understanding of how work gets done in this field.

    Advice to Management

Clean up your EDW and data systems. There are teams in your company who are building cutting edge and really neat data tools, but hardly anyone can use them because most of the analysts in the company are struggling through your data trying to answer basic questions. They would love to get beyond the dayly or weekly firedrills and do some actual analytics projects but are instead mired in the swamp that has been growing.

I have been working at Groupon full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are great, the culture and internal work life balance are great, free food and drinks every once in a while, love the PTO policy, the ability to advance quick to another team function within your department.

    Cons

Communication is terrible, front line has no idea that changes happen until the day off, constant changes to policy that affect front line are not discussed with front line, there is a lot of unknown going on, which is fair but for a billion dollar company it is discouraging to see.

    Advice to Management

If all the managers were on the same page and their was more consistency to policies and practices, the retention would be a huge win.

I worked at Groupon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I did love working at Groupon, but because of the friends I made there. It was a fun place to work once. It was also great to be able to wfh and have flexibility.

    Cons

A lot has changed over the years. Groupon isn't the "crazy fun" place anymore. They fully rank quantity over quality - jobs are being outsourced to Poland and India. They laid off hundreds of people in the middle of a Thursday afternoon with no warning. It's also near impossible to get promoted there. There is no growth; people are quitting like crazy. It's a sinking ship.

    Advice to Management

Know all those employees who helped you get to where you are today? Start showing them some appreciation.

    Pros

Very laid back, generous time off policy, work from home wednesdays, laid back scheduling

    Cons

Pay is not great, it grows very monotonous, i didn't feel my skills were valued or utilized

    Advice to Management

Don't keep telling your employees how valuable they are and then continue to neglect in cultivating what they bring to the table.
