I have been working at Grow Financial full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Everyone is really valued at Grow. Walking past people in the hallways, every person will smile and say "hi". Great benefits, great culture, free food most days of the week. Most of all, the work that is done, people are passionate about. I've never worked for a company before Grow that values its employees, and knows that what you give to the employees (listening, encouraging, offering training courses and leadership courses, etc. to learn and become greater), in turn, the employees will give back to the organization. It's actually a family here, and I don't want to work anywhere else.

    Cons

There's so much bandwidth as to where roles can expand and things can be implemented (also a positive), that sometimes your plate can fill up very quickly. It's really not a big deal though, because you get the opportunity to see your change and work reflected in the company.

I worked at Grow Financial part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people and environment are very friendly. The pay is good, and there are many opportunities to move upwards or laterally within the company.

    Cons

Internal communication is not great, and the company uses third parties to handle much of their business. This means customers sending payments to places thinking it's coming straight to grow, then being confused when this isn't reflected in their account. On the employee side, it means constantly signing in to different applications to search for things like a check deposit or mobile transfer. And don't get too used to any one system, because as soon as you do it will be replaced by something "better".

I worked at Grow Financial full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Everything is great within your first year or two. I’ll start off with the pros. Majority of the people who work at Grow are great and so friendly. The benefits are probably some of the best - great healthcare and 6% match 401K. They value work life balance which is nice too. I think it really depends on which department you work in. Some departments have great leadership and team members.

    Cons

Sadly, it usually takes one bad egg (marketing leader) to turn a great work environment into a toxic one. Toxic as in -creating a divide between their own department on purpose, playing favoritism, not showing up to meetings, and making rude comments. It was always very frustrating to have passion for your work and trying to give your expertise to help benefit the company to find out that leadership doesn’t trust it’s own team. The leadership on the marketing team held the whole department back because of the lack of his experience of the financial industry. Most of the C-suite does’t really want to try new ideas and usually feel threatened when other employees think of better or alternative solutions. They preach a culture of “life beyond the everyday” meaning they want to go above and beyond to anticipate member’s (customer’s) needs. But when in fact, they do the opposite. They rather inconvenience members to save themselves a few dollars.

I worked at Grow Financial full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

This company has incredible benefits! 100% 401K vested after 90 days- up to 8% match and medical coverage is good in comparison to standard 2017 rates. The HR & Training departments are always fun and the headquarters is friendly and engaged. The HQ building is beautiful and they're always hosting events to engage the employees. They even have a fully stocked gym onsite. Most managers are also flexible with work from home options and the organization is doing their best to make this more consistent across all departments, but there are still managers lacking the skillset and trust to allow this. Also, Grow is great about internal promotions up to manager level, but it's doubtful you'll make it to executive unless you come from the outside. Community outreach is always going on with team building and personal development is supported at every level.

    Cons

The executive team comes across as superficial and unsure of what they want (there's not even a mission statement except to tell us to be bold and have fun..?). This creates a HUGE lack of direction for us (where does the member service principles come in? Integrity? What do we stand for and how can we declare this to our members and new team members?). Also, it doesn't feel as though we're working for anything important (except to let the execs earn more money). At first, I thought working for a "credit union" (not for profit) would make it different- but don't let GROW fool you. They are a BANK in sheep's clothing. Vacation/ Sick accrual leaves much to be desired. Sick is accrued separately, but you're penalized if you use it. They provide you incentive NOT to use it (earn 1 personal day each quarter). A PTO system works much better by bundling the time together and giving the employee more control over managing it. You also can't accrue more than 80 hours of vacation a year so use it or lose it.

I worked at Grow Financial full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great 401k match. 1 hour lunch break. 1% employee discount for loans. AAA discount. If you are very cheerful and upbeat all the time and you like to hang out with your managers and co-workers outside of work, you will move up quickly. You can relax between calls in the call center, when we are well staffed the call queue is low.

    Cons

Managers rule by fear. You have to be friendly and bubbly 24/7. Temporary departments and employees. You have to hang out with your co workers outside of work. Hard work and loyalty mean nothing, they will hire someone with no experience over their own employees who have been there 5+ years. Managers make sure you are aware that you can be replaced. They do not train well in most departments..alot of representatives are clueless. You are on your own when solving an issue with a clients account. The clients hate our guts, most calls are dreadful....not for anyone who is overly emotional.
