    Pros

Technicians and Sales personnel great to work with

    Cons

Small branch to out of state corporate office, entrenched longtime personnel with no current or new vision, 20th century technology in use and happy with it, no modern day time sheets, i.e. retail time clock, benefits are average or below industry or private company average

    Advice to Management

Hire competent people for Managers and not friends

    Pros

Guardian has historically provided secure employment to employees who "toe the line." The continuation of this trend will be dependent upon whether the business's historical revenue trend is sustained.

    Cons

Opportunities for advancement do no exist in most departments. Even if openings for higher positions do exist, Guardian rarely promotes from within. Annual raises are paltry.

    Advice to Management

Act to embrace change and innovation. Do away with the archaic culture.

    Pros

Coworkers are legit and cool and the special events/holidays/lunches are pretty nice. The A/C works in the building, which is essential in the AZ Oven-like heat waves.

    Cons

There is a lack of follow through on promises made, incentives and changes to policies and procedures. This company is the epitome of left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. Training and Trainers are inadequate and they are frequently out of touch with changes to the polices, having never taken or assisted on a single call coming in. QA is extremely subjective with little room to appeal decisions which impact your scores. These scores hold a lot of weight when determining your bidding order for shifts. Also, shifts are bid quarterly, which makes it difficult to plan anything long term.

    Advice to Management

Get everyone on the same page and test/pilot policy changes prior to implementing them. Also, have your trainers jump on the phones in between training classes to get more of a feel for what is actually happening on the floor.

I worked at Guardian Protection Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If one snow cone day and holiday party per year count, then that's the pros. Cafeteria is a plus as well. Free airplane coffee. Okay benefits.

    Cons

Company culture is miserable. All white male executive staff has their own separate wing. No growth opportunities available, especially for women. No empowerment, crappy pay, small raises every year but no bonus, at least in the department I worked in. Most collectively negative and miserable employees I have ever been around. Worst professional 2 years of my life, I couldn't wait to leave.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Pay more or forever have high turnover. Get rid of your separate wing, you are not in politics and are not better than anyone else.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Guardian has an enthusiastic training team and adequate training program. For the most part an enthusiastic workforce. Provides good wages and benefits.

    Cons

Guardian watches every minute of the day you are with them and has a very strict performance quota. Even though they say it are flexible and will work with each individuals learning speed.

    Advice to Management

Management should follow through with what they say and do a more efficient job of working with new employees to achieve their performance goals after training and not attempt to build a network of phone robots..

I worked at Guardian Protection Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Medical benefits on first day of employment. Their monitoring center is first rate.

    Cons

Management is very misleading about the amount of company leads available and the compensation plan which changes frequently. More disturbing is that certain employees are definitely favored and given more leads, and not because they are better closers! Guardian expects you to find most of your own business and yet they have no brand recognition in the market place. They are over-priced and they don't offer much in the range of security products, only G.E. wireless unless they are taking over an existing wired system. You receive training pay for the first six months which starts at $1500 monthly for the first two months, $1000 monthly for the third and fourth months and $500 monthly for the fifth and sixth month. Starting with month seven, you are on straight commission along with a monthly performance salary if you make your self-generated numbers. Even if you hit the lowest tier of four, the performance salary is so small for the following month; it is hardly worth the effort. It is a convoluted plan with so many variables. Management will micromanage your time and yet there is no base salary. It is a high stress environment with the bullying, harassment and insults about performance and sales numbers. To add insult to injury, receiving your pay check is upsetting enough. The bottom line is very little compensation for the amount of prospecting, cold-calling and running all over for the few company leads that you do receive. You will get a lead that is over an hour away instead of one that is only 20 or 30 minutes from your home because they over-hire in certain areas of the three state territory of PA, DE and N.J. Anyone who is a good prospector with a large network of people will not work here because the incentive pay is so minimal.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in your employees with a better compensation plan. Give them reasons to want to stay. Be realistic about the market place that you are in - each one has different dynamics. You can't compare Pittsburgh with Orlando or any other area. With so much competition than five years ago including the DIY companies, Xfinity, ATT, ADT dealers as well as ADT corporate and so many others that Guardian is not remaining competitive. Guardian has now fallen to number 10 and will continue to fall in the ratings because you are failing to address the internal problems that exist.
