I have been working at Guardsmark (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great company, fair pay, decent supervisors, great client locations, opportunity for growth, generally great people to work with, management opportunities available regularly.

    Cons

Be careful to be sure what you are accepting and be sure that your site manager has your back! Sometimes, they are really great but do something they don't like or they think isn't in your best interest they will get rid of you!

I worked at Guardsmark full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Security work - non stressful

    Cons

Everything. Management seemed to not exist at the sites I worked. Relief constantly late, no pay increases in the years I was there, promised tuition reimbursement and was denied when filed, overall it left a bad experience with the company and although I moved on into my career I would not want to go back knowing what I do now.

    Advice to Management

Check in and have a system developed with the guards. Typically relief came 30-45 min or more late on a double shift if they even showed up at all. Overall lack of morale and wanting to stay with the company. Most people moved on quickly or quit.

I worked at Guardsmark full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I didn't appreciate it while I was employed with Guardsmark, however looking back, the greatest pro was the flexibility that the position(s) allowed. The company pays well versus the industry standard and the firm does have a strong name & presence in the field.

    Cons

Upward mobility is stagnant unless you have a military and/or federal law enforcement pedigree. INCREDIBLY difficult to get any definitive answers/direction without first obtaining the blessings from the owner which you could understand if it were a smaller company.

    Advice to Management

It wouldn't help, they would not listen to anything we had to say while we were employed.

    Pros

The company has one of the lowest turnovers in the industry. I've been in security for more than 25 years and I have worked for numerous companies and raises come from the client not the security company if your on the security officers side of the spectrum. Cooperate is a little different but even a raise for cooperate employees generally come about based on client revenue, ie lost of clients lose of pay/employees. A security company is not a 9-5 job and since the client is paying the salary it is up to them if they want to pay you for being off, hint the word salary (security officer's are paid hourly) therefore the benefits are not the same. If you want to move up continue your education, go back to school and complete a related degree from an accredited school.

    Cons

Promotion are a little slow and are only available on a branch level if someone leaves The managerial structure is a little different than most top security company's on a branch level but advancement is there if you're willing to relocate to maybe another state.

    Advice to Management

Some can be a little more considerate towards their subordinates, be a little more professional.
