I worked at Guardsmark full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I didn't appreciate it while I was employed with Guardsmark, however looking back, the greatest pro was the flexibility that the position(s) allowed. The company pays well versus the industry standard and the firm does have a strong name & presence in the field.

    Cons

Upward mobility is stagnant unless you have a military and/or federal law enforcement pedigree. INCREDIBLY difficult to get any definitive answers/direction without first obtaining the blessings from the owner which you could understand if it were a smaller company.

    Advice to Management

It wouldn't help, they would not listen to anything we had to say while we were employed.

    Pros

The company has one of the lowest turnovers in the industry. I've been in security for more than 25 years and I have worked for numerous companies and raises come from the client not the security company if your on the security officers side of the spectrum. Cooperate is a little different but even a raise for cooperate employees generally come about based on client revenue, ie lost of clients lose of pay/employees. A security company is not a 9-5 job and since the client is paying the salary it is up to them if they want to pay you for being off, hint the word salary (security officer's are paid hourly) therefore the benefits are not the same. If you want to move up continue your education, go back to school and complete a related degree from an accredited school.

    Cons

Promotion are a little slow and are only available on a branch level if someone leaves The managerial structure is a little different than most top security company's on a branch level but advancement is there if you're willing to relocate to maybe another state.

    Advice to Management

Some can be a little more considerate towards their subordinates, be a little more professional.

    Pros

Depending on your location great for college students. In dome locations good pay and the clients are terricic. The management team that I worked for where amazing.

    Cons

At that time no real benefits you had no sick time. Everything is based on what location your hired no set pay.

I have been working at Guardsmark full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You may like it or not but it's a job. Free but already used uniforms. Some sites offer direct deposit.
You get 5 days vacation after 1 year of employment.

    Cons

No room to grow. If they promise you a rewarding career, believe me it's a lie.
A little pay and of course no pay raises for officers. Guardsmark is so desperate not to give you over time.(Lipman and his buddies must make good money not security officers).
The hiring process is ridiculous.! Just to give you an idea: 40 pages application, 500 psychological questions, Polygraph test, Drug test, Background check, you need to get 6 references from your neighbors and then.....welcome to Guardsmark, you can enjoy a "career" for $10/hr.
After 5 or 10 years of employment you can expect to get a pin with a letter from Lipman. (What a joke!)

    Advice to Management

Lipman! Maybe it's time to stop sending stupid Guardsmark newspaper, a Christmas card and instead of that...give security officers a pay raise! I have no words to describe how cheap this company is.

    Pros

My site is a great site with guarantied hours, and I work with people that help me out for further job opportunities.

    Cons

Nothing particularly negative, just wish there was a better benefit package.

    Advice to Management

There should be a better raise system in place.

I have been working at Guardsmark full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Have not seen one yet

    Cons

Basically the people do not have regards to floor employees. Security officers are treated like garbage. Company style of document compilation is so outdated. This company is not technology friendly. It prides itself as the finest security company within the security industry but on a more serious note it is the worst. Some of its management leaders are nothing but dictators.

    Advice to Management

Be real and get rid of those dictators you have as managers.Flash them out and bring creative thinkers on board. Scrap slave drivers so as to pave way for motivators who can challenge employees to add more value
