I have been working at Guardsmark for more than a year

    Pros

Awesome people and environment. Simply be honest/up front with them. Work with them and they will work with you.

    Cons

Occasional discrepancies for pay but bring it to your supervisor's attention, it will be fixed. Does not happen often though as long as you have it in your timesheet.

I worked at Guardsmark for more than 2 years

    Pros

They were willing to work around school schedules for college students.

    Cons

I worked 19 months as a site supervisor with responsibility for 6-7 security officers, their scheduling, training, payroll approval, and 24/7 daily operations at the main entrance scale-house of a large local manufacturing facility. Pay started and remained at $10.00/hr.

    I worked at Guardsmark

    Pros

Some of the sites are not horrible. I actually can't come up with 20 words worth of nice things to say about the Seattle branch.

    Cons

Office staff was not professional and would gossip and call employees names in front of other employees and prospective employees. New hire practices are VERY archaic and require notarized letters from references. Very intrusive in demanding medical information and conditions. If you do not give them the medical info they will not hire you. And then I got to listen to the office staff discussing and making fun of...

    Advice to Management

Restructure, get current on technology and laws, clear out your Seattle office and start over.

    I worked at Guardsmark

    Pros

    Benefit package is pretty okay.

    Cons

No growth opportunities whatsoever for lower level employees

    Advice to Management

Promote from within. Better manage turnover rates by incorporating mid level managers in decision making at sites managed by these managers. Incorporate technology in management as it WILL positively enhance the company's bottom line.

I worked at Guardsmark full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Scheduling helped me get through college. The employees in lower level positions are the funniest and selfless people you'll meet.

    Cons

No future within company, management intimidated by lower level employees seeking promotion. At my departure company began to lose account and were outbid by new and modern security companies. If you ask security officers about the companies culture dont be surprised if you hear of "racism."

I have been working at Guardsmark full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Good Workers that work hard. Good benefits from a contract security firm. Good Pay as well for contract security.

    Cons

At times seems to not be up on new trends. This could hurt this company as thing change around them. It would'nt hurt them to mix in a company intranet so workers can get information and apply for jobs internally.

    Advice to Management

Grow with the times, the security field is changing and ever growing these days. Keep up!

I have been working at Guardsmark full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Many different locations so a transfer is always possible

    Cons

Wages are sketchy, you can be quoted one wage and hire in at a different wage without being told the difference.

    Advice to Management

When you get a great person working for the company, reward him or her!

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Guardsmark full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

One of the better security companies in the industry.

    Cons

They are a little behind on the technology side of things. It seems that the CEO is behind the times and refuses to move into the current century. Many outdated practices and things that could be done to cut costs, improve efficiencies and boost wages.

    Advice to Management

Stop with the monthly newsletter. At least the paper version. What a waste.

I worked at Guardsmark full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Guardsmark is a large company in an industry that has an abundance of players. The size assists in making it a visible and known quantity.

    Cons

The cons of the company are no different from any other security company. Employees rotate to frequently to develop any sense of friendship.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with respect. Despite the relative disposability of the security personnel, good relations between management and employees are conducive to providing a good and productive work environment.
