I worked at Guardsmark full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Good culture, decent pay, decent benefits. The company treats you like a human being. They will often back you up in times of trouble.

    Cons

A little behind on the technology end of things. I would like to see the company allow direct deposit. When I worked there it wasn't allowed at all locations.

    Advice to Management

Keep supporting your Supervisors, you're doing well.

I have been working at Guardsmark full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Flexible Schedule The account managers let me run my site, my way and according to the customer rules and regulations. The company recognizes supervisors and security officers accomplishments. Managers are very nice and try to go out of the way for you.

    Cons

No opportunity to advance due to small department in San Diego. Undermanned Everything is still paper work pay very little depending on site. If your site is not manned fully, then personnel cannot take vacation No yearly pay raises

    Advice to Management

Doing paper work electronically is the way the future of businesses are heading. Advance those who deserve to be advanced or else people are going to seek to work elsewhere.

I have been working at Guardsmark

    Pros

The company has one of the lowest turnovers in the industry. I've been in security for more than 25 years and I have worked for numerous companies and raises come from the client not the security company if your on the security officers side of the spectrum. Cooperate is a little different but even a raise for cooperate employees generally come about based on client revenue, ie lost of clients lose of pay/employees. A...

    Cons

Promotion are a little slow and are only available on a branch level if someone leaves The managerial structure is a little different than most top security company's on a branch level but advancement is there if you're willing to relocate to maybe another state.

    Advice to Management

Some can be a little more considerate towards their subordinates, be a little more professional.

    I worked at Guardsmark

    Pros

    Benefit package is pretty okay.

    Cons

No growth opportunities whatsoever for lower level employees

    Advice to Management

Promote from within. Better manage turnover rates by incorporating mid level managers in decision making at sites managed by these managers. Incorporate technology in management as it WILL positively enhance the company's bottom line.

    Pros

Many different locations so a transfer is always possible

    Cons

Wages are sketchy, you can be quoted one wage and hire in at a different wage without being told the difference.

    Advice to Management

When you get a great person working for the company, reward him or her!

    Pros

Great mentoring program by management, you just have to be open and receptive to it.

    Cons

Unstable industry. Poor use of funds by company.

    Advice to Management

Nobody cares about the company newspaper, the daily bulletin, or the Christmas card...that money would be put to better use on the employees.

    Pros

Guardsmark is a large company in an industry that has an abundance of players. The size assists in making it a visible and known quantity.

    Cons

The cons of the company are no different from any other security company. Employees rotate to frequently to develop any sense of friendship.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with respect. Despite the relative disposability of the security personnel, good relations between management and employees are conducive to providing a good and productive work environment.

I have been working at Guardsmark

    Pros

Sometimes you will work with a good team. The team takes care of each other covering for shift changes as needed or time off because the area supervisor will not care. The client company is more likely to appreciate the guards than Guardsmark will. You will get new uniforms if you pester the manager enough. You will have time to read or study if you are going to school especially on evening and graveyard shifts.

    Cons

Don't expect a raise, or direct deposit. Do expect problems with pay and partial paychecks. The insurance is a joke but only Lipman is laughing. The training is all cut and paste material not worth the paper its printed on. Good guards move on to bigger and better things ASAP. The vacation will be when they can give it to you not when you want. (one week after 1 year two weeks after 2 years) no sick leave.

    Advice to Management

Mr. Lipman loves to put a picture of himself and his family on every publication stuffed with the checks and monthly training junk. Stop wasting paper and learn to use the automated systems thy might even save money that could help pay the guards so they can stay more than a couple of months.

I have been working at Guardsmark

    Pros

Good start up pay, company issued uniform, Full time employee medical and 401(k). One week paid vacation is earned after one year and two weeks after two years and above. No experience necessary and minimum disciplinary rules in place.

    Cons

The startup pay is the maximum pay received so don’t expect a raise. Poor Human resource management causes errors in pay, loss of paper checks (no direct deposit), poor training conducted on paper only and no connection between security officers and the branch office. Ecologically unfriendly as the company uses monthly paper training pamphlets and a newsletter to portray the lavish life of Ira Lipman and his family....

    Advice to Management

Get with the digital generation, start using paperless training, daily reports, and payroll. Keep the company presidents face out of the monthly newsletter we know he is rich. Open the lines of communication between the security officers and management.
