Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

Great Culture, Sorry to See It End

    Pros

    - Incredibly talented Studios team, not just skilled but also supportive and highly collaborative - A lot of independence to design independently, and feedback was always on-point and without ego - You can tell the leadership team cared about the employees and wanted the people to succeed in their jobs/roles; Studios in particular really tried to fulfill a successful content mission

    Cons

    - Financial challenges, the company was trying to sell both platform subscriptions while maintaining a content services business - Attrition, kept hiring good people but losing good people

    Tragically, a sinking ship.

    Dec 7, 2020 - Graphic Designer

    Pros

Opportunities to push and lead initiatives for those willing to go above and beyond. Few do this, but it's a no-fail environment and managers encourage you to take advantage of it. The people. Despite the high turnover, this company is sitting on so many talented, inspiring individuals and the Portland office culture is the highlight of this company.

    Cons

Everyone is steering the ship, therefore no one is. Not only have layoffs become routine over the last few years, but recently executive staff has been jumping ship one by one. They claim they're defining the market, but they're chasing it. Employees ask, "How do we still have customers?" and fear they'll be laid off next. Oddly enough, seasoned employees have grown stagnant and comfortable. The CEO should have stepped down years ago, stagnant employees are also part of the problem, and the product is embarrassingly outdated.

    Worth the squeeze

Apr 17, 2020 - Associate Director in Redwood City, CA

    Business Outlook

    Pros

The people ("Sparks") are some of the best anywhere. From leadership to seasonal contractors, we're a family and rally together like no other company I've ever seen accomplish. We're also incredibly transparent and candid with each other. Executives make themselves available for 1:1s, updates, feedback sessions, etc, and that includes the CEO.

    Cons

What company doesn't have some issues or challenges?? GuideSpark is no different. We're trying to tackle a BIG problem for companies of any size or shape anywhere. To that end, it can feel like we're chasing a moving target or that the sands are always shifting beneath our feet. So if you're uncomfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty, this place likely isn't for you. But if you like to take ownership and create opportunities out of sheer will and determination, step on up.

Look hard before agreeing to anything

    Jan 25, 2021 - Anonymous Employee

    Business Outlook

    Pros

-Good and intelligent individual people -Real attempts from a middle-management level to nurture individuals -Real belief in the product

    Cons

These are not the fault of any individual, but red flags of a downward trend: -Survival is the name of the game right now, at the expense of employees through yearly purges masked as re-organizations -Flailing approach to marketing and sales -High motivation to strike gold, which has resulted in sharp pivots when things aren't perfect. Lots of jargon used to wash this away -Revolving door exec leadership -The real and earnest sincerity from the employees during hiring masks a lot of fear and disjunction behind the scenes -Employees were literally laid off on employee appreciation day

    Neat Product, Good People

    Oct 7, 2020 - Account Manager

    Business Outlook

    Pros

The communication platform is a very unique SaaS offering that provides real value to their clients.

    Cons

The product is slightly ahead of the technology curve so adoption is slow. The CMO, though a great salesperson, has zero leadership skills.
