    Pros

Best company ever. Ross and Kristi are the best. Craig follows suit as well. And great autonomy. Working for a common goal-great experiences for the kids.

    Cons

Moving to San Juan a challenge for those in the Claremont office and getting to it from other sites. Growing pains that are actually good pains to have.

    Advice to Management

Create a futuristic structure that meets the needs of Millenials and keep up what you do for the staff. Great company!

I worked at Guided Discoveries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    > Inspiring work environment - One had have a physics or astronomy degree to work as an instructor during my time there. This creates a community of people who are stereotypically proactive in their critical thinking skills.

    > Good environment to determine your next step after undergraduate school before making a more concrete professional decision.

    > Promotes self discovery as an instructor as one ad to be knowledgeable and inspiring regarding science education. The lessons are geared to motivate students and allow them to grow.

    Cons

    > Compensation is associated with room and board. This varies dramatically across camp and can place one in a situation where they are getting compensated drastically different than other employees which in turn undermines this compensation theory.

    > Work relating to this industry is difficult to come by. This job is not a career and should be viewed as a good networking and inspirational resource. Greatly suggest looking for new, and inspired opportunities while there so that you can transition in less than (2) years,

    Pros

Wonderful place to live, including a fantastic community feel with everyone living on site. Food and housing is provided. Work is rewarding and fun and rarely feels like "work".

    Cons

Work takes a lot of time and energy. You won't get nights or weekends off, which makes it hard to have regular extracurricular activities like participating in sports leagues. Also, the salary is low, but it is easy to save money since housing and food is provided so you will have few expenses.

    Advice to Management

    Rock on

I have been working at Guided Discoveries as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

The staff is young. The job is fun and rewarding if you enjoy teaching kids. Food and lodging are included in your pay. The job involves teaching kids physics and astronomy concepts in fun ways and running ropes course elements.

    Cons

The hours are long and you often start around 8am and do not finish until after 9pm with breaks throughout the day. The hourly wage isn't great and during slow parts of the season income is very low.

    Advice to Management

    Middle management needs more training.

I have been working at Guided Discoveries full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The office environment (beach, mountains, or tall ship) is far from lacking. In and outside of work their are constant opportunities to grow oneself after leaving college. This is an ideal place for working before acceptance to grad school or other academic programs.

The workers attracted to these places have all been very friendly and open, with shared housing and meals provided there are many opportunities to get to know your coworkers.

    Cons

There is little room for advancement. Management positions rarely open up and once they do, they do not always promote for merit alone. Due to the close living quarters, eating arrangements and work schedules only those who fit in the best will be staying long.
