I have been working at Guidewire full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great company culture. Decent compensation. Opportunities for personal development. Accessible upper management.

    Cons

Subject matter may not be very glamorous. Benefits are adequate but no more.

    Advice to Management

Protect the company culture you have created at (almost) all costs. The company is growing and will change, of course, but the culture is what helped it become what it is in the first place.

I have been working at Guidewire full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

High end consulting with a leading edge modern product that is taking over the industry. Challenges and opportunities abound.

    Cons

Constant travel is hard. Customers often resist changing their ways

    Advice to Management

Remember: We started this business because we knew how to do the work that our customers have failed at doing. Don't be too impressed by things our customers tend to find impressive.

Embrace agile. It is still the best solution for many of our problems.

I have been working at Guidewire full-time

    Pros

    Very good benefits.
    Great co-workers
Management that is led from the CEO on down that really cares about both the company and the employees.

    Cons

When you are a consultant and traveling this can be a huge challenge to family life. I would not recommend it to anyone that does not have a understanding and supportive family. Or if your family is tired of seeing your face this might be good :)

    Advice to Management

Keep following the principals this company was founded on. There is a reason for the success and growth and you need to pay attention to this. It is one of the keys to define this company for the future. Do not try to make us the same as other companies you have worked at. We are not those companies. Guidewire is special. Keep it that way.

I have been working at Guidewire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Management is transparent, lacking politics of other organizations. Work with the best colleagues in the business. Opportunities for professional growth, travel and choices for development as a technical leader, people manager or both. Competitive compensation package.

    Cons

We are growing fast and still building our infrastructure, so sometimes it is hard to find the right resources. Compensation is great in most regards, but the 401k matching could be better.

    Advice to Management

We need better definition around career path in some areas. More competitive 401k match to round off an otherwise great compensation package.

I have been working at Guidewire full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Guidewire offers travel opportunities (world travel, if desired).

    Cons

The travel and consulting "lifestyle" is very demanding.

    Advice to Management

Remember the reason why this company was founded: We can develop software successfully, while our customer *CANNOT*. Therefore, *DO NOT* be overly impressed with what our customers consider important and good: We succeed because *WE* know what is important and good. (IE: "agile.")
