I worked at Guilford County Schools full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The administration, teachers and student school communities are supportive of students and teachers growth as learners and doers in the classroom. The diversity of students due to the English as a Second Language Program is inspiring.

    Cons

More reality pedagogy - teaching in the context of the students culture is needed. It is assumed that teachers culture is sufficient to teaching students from different cultural backgrounds.

    Advice to Management

Partner with A&T education department for professional development at management and classroom levels.

I worked at Guilford County Schools full-time

    Pros

    - The ability to meet great students
    - Empowering students to learn and grow in more ways than academic

    Cons

    - Administration lacks interpersonal skills
    - Administration is more concerned with School Report Cards instead of whether the students are actually learning subjects that will assist them with getting into good colleges.
    - Administration picks and chooses who gets promoted to a better position based on popularity and personal relationships

    Advice to Management

Though Common Core must be adhered to, find a way to ensure that the students are actually learning skills that will help them with doing well on their college entrance exams. Treat direct reports as if they matter! Accolades go a long way from the Lead person (principal).

    Pros

My co-workers were awesome! Like the schedule. Pay was good. Kids are good. Enjoyed working with them.

    Cons

Was screamed at by the supervisor daily or someone else was. Went to hirer up. They wouldn't do anything and told me to resign. Wouldn't transfer me. Everyone including the kids should be treated with respect. Had anxiety going to work everyday.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees. Maybe you won't be looking for employees all the time. Management!!!!! Don't loose the check then tell me I have to wait to get paid.
