I have been working at Guilford Technical Community College part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Giving people a chance to have a start at a career. The college has given me the opportunity to teach math, business, and electrical/electronic classes.

    Cons

School needs to provide more class options for students to attend classes both day and night. As more people find employment night school will become more important.

    Advice to Management

Support and listen to your Instrctor’s.

I worked at Guilford Technical Community College (More than 10 years)

    Pros

GTCC is a good place to work. Most of the faculty and staff care about their work: helping people in the community reach goals. GTCC is offers a very diverse student population.

    Cons

Over the last few years, the upper administration at GTCC started to micro-manage employees. Communication is very one-way with little input from those in daily contact with the students.

    Advice to Management

List to those who deal with the students each day. Hire people to do jobs and do not just assign more work to those already there.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Guilford Technical Community College full-time

    Pros

State benefits, good professional development opportunities, can find great colleagues work with.

    Cons

In higher education settings, the financial success of an institution typically rises when the economy is down and lowers when the economy thrives. Pay and availability of jobs can depend on how healthy (or unhealthy) the local economy is rather than having anything to do with job performance or work ethic. Recent changes at this college are drastic and seem to be made with little to no explanation to the workers.

    Advice to Management

Be transparent to employees with things that are changing, share details in writing, give logic and explanation for changes so that employees understand why changes are being made.
