    Pros

I loved working with the teens. My job was unique with the kids. I thought the school principal was great, others did not, but I had a good relationship with him due to my position. He is now head honcho. I wish I had stayed; it was one of the biggest employment mistakes I have ever made given my position there.

    Cons

Pay for staff was terrible! A lot of the kids were very difficult to deal with for staff and many staff supervisors did't care about their jobs. Turn over was horrendous! Call in's constant. When I gave notice and left, I was not allowed to complete my two weeks thereby did not get my final check which hurt me bad! What happened to me when I left (and tried to return later) was totally wrong! I was blamed for causing hard feelings when I left, but I was made to leave the way I did - gave notice then not allowed to do what I needed to in in the position I held. But, I do miss GCTC. I would go back if I could.

    Advice to Management

When someone gives you a two week notice, don't cut them off the next day. You are hurting those people more than you know! If the employee wants out immediately, fine, but otherwise, don't take away the paycheck because you can.

I worked at Gulf Coast Trade Center full-time

    Pros

Kids are so needy. I wanted to make a difference. Originally a wonderful place to work until the founder died. Many kids that need help. I felt like if we reached a few we had done something.

    Cons

Stressful, low pay, bad managers at every level.

    Advice to Management

Some people are not what they seem and at upper levels that leads to BIG problems. Sure hope they change upper management.

I worked at Gulf Coast Trade Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The training was adequate. I enjoyed working with the youths and felt my role was critical in their release back into society. The environment was an optimal work environment. Great job to have during college.

    Cons

The supervisors were not qualified in my opinion. Other than that it was a great place to work. Working with troubled youths can be difficult.

    Advice to Management

Hire a residential staff supervisor that has adequate qualifications.

    Pros

Great experience in the social service non profit field. Opportunities are plentiful for young professionals in education, counseling, case management and vocational training.

    Advice to Management

Success will only happen with unity

    Cons

Some kids were hard to reach and didn't work with program well. Not enough planning time for instructors.

    Advice to Management

    Tougher discipline and consequences.

    Pros

Steady check, benefits, u make a diffrence in kids lives, can be laidback at times.

    Cons

Midmanagement is incompetent; has a go along to get along feel. Does not teach kids responsility or dislipline as advertised

    Advice to Management

Learn to listen to your group workers, remove the corruption from midmanagement, dislipine the kids like your supposed to. As an employee i felt like if I complained about a situation/person then there was enough corruption to get me removed. The employees feel like they are the ones with criminal record not the kids who are sent by authorities
