I worked at Gulf Interstate Engineering full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good not great benefits, competitive salary, big scale projects, good work-life balance, 9/80 schedule, a leader in the industry, fun social events

    Cons

All groups are very silo'd, future of the company and its owners are very uncertain, lack of top-down communication, nepotism is the rule not the exception

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent about the company's vision over the next five to ten years. Be careful with the level of nepotism. It seems to be getting out of hand.

I have been working at Gulf Interstate Engineering (More than 5 years)

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Good benefits. FLEX time was more than generous. Mostly a good design staff. Great place to work if you enjoy chaos and confusion and building something out of nothing in about 1/2 the time that is humanly possible.

    Cons

Projects are poorly managed. The general lack of understanding of the time required to perform any given task coupled with under-qualified project coordinators makes meeting deadlines almost impossible.

    Advice to Management

Monitor and enforce defined design standards and protocols.

I worked at Gulf Interstate Engineering full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Private company, people love it and many have been there for a long time, really values engineers and experienced designers, lots of opportunities to implement improvements and shine if you are a go-getter, every other Friday off, really good 401K matching and immediate vesting

    Cons

Sr Management doesn't really value support functions such as HR, Marketing, or Quality - they want things how they want them and don't really listen to ideas from those teams. Standard benefits (other than 401K) are OK, but a little expensive, and none of the extra benefits that are becoming common in O&G

    Advice to Management

Trust your subject matter experts to do their jobs and quit micromanaging areas that are not under your chain of command
