    Pros

Great place to work with knowledgable staff, good tech support and oppertunities for travel. Overall great expereance with few gripes.

    Cons

Middle management tends to whine but the overall leadership is good. Upper management could be a little stronger in not letting the whineing wear down moral.

    Advice to Management

    No advice to offer

    Pros

Great variety of work including scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on many different types of aircraft. Challenging avionics and cabin entertainment install projects. Very knowlegeable technicians.

    Cons

Now longer in buisness in Minneapolis. Decision to cease operations due to slow sales left many loyal customers without local service. Poor communication about layoffs and decision to close the facility.

    Advice to Management

Don't decieve employees about having open communications. During the annual "All Hands Meeting" it was said that any intentions of reduction in force would be openly communicated with employees. This was not true as nobody knew anything of the impending layoffs when they happened.

    Pros

Benifits are outstanding. Focus is on our customers and ensure a first class service visit is performed by our top notch techs. Our service is focused world with wide road trip crews and parts.

    Cons

Middle management creates confusion by only firefighting issues. Fix the current problem but no following through so the problem doesn't come up again. Lean Six Sigma is overstated as the way to solve all our problems, but will not succeed without lower and middle management commitment. The techs on floor believe they have a voice through LSS, but lower and middle management do not have room in their firefighting equipment belt to understand the answers at their finger tips.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the voice of the techs, they make the company what it is today.

    Pros

Gulfstream has wonderful products and is committed to improving them to stay ahead of the competition. Just as important, they are continually rated number 1 in the industry for product support.

    Cons

The senior sales management is overbearing in their management style. They have promoted younger salesmen to division VP positions that tend to cater to senior management without adequately representing the concerns of field sales directors.

    Advice to Management

Pay a little more attention to the sales directors when it comes to new product development and customer relations. They are the first line of contact to the customers. I would say the same applies to field service technicians.

    Pros

Learning opportunities, growing organization. Good pay package and health benefits. Senior leadership cares about employees and are trust worthy. Overall a good organization.

    Cons

Mediocre performance bonuses and pay raises, moving geographically is a challenge. Not a high volume manufacturing plant. Old practices do exist in certain areas.

    Advice to Management

They are down to earth, care about employees and well connected to the rest of the organization. Highly motivated and involved.

"Great product, Stable job, Decent pay, Caring Employer - Overall a great Manufacturing Company"

    Pros

Pros are the product is best in class, so everyone is proud to be a part of it. The way they structure the business, they dot get affected much by economy swings which means mostly everyone has job stability. The pay is not the greatest, but its pretty standard considering it is manufacturing. Management in most areas genuinely care about employees personal and professional well being and constantly encourage employee learning and development. Timings within manufacturing are 4 x 10 work-weeks which is pretty hard during the weekdays, but you get 3 days of weekend off to recharge, so its not so bad after all. People are great to work with. Also upper management is very knowledgeable and promotions for most part are given to qualified candidates only. So in summary, I would day a really good manufacturing company to work for.

    Cons

Cons I would say are pretty much the same you find everywhere in American Manufacturing. Legacy systems, old practices which are hard to change, focus on lean without understanding lean completely, vertically oriented functioning with silo mentalities. A lot of focus and energy is spent on fire-fighting issues rather than fixing the process which is at the root of the issue. Also Savannah is a decent city, with some good beaches nearby, but its not the greatest place to be on earth. Also employees can use a bit more vacation time off.

    Advice to Management

Understand lean before trying to implement it. Migrate from a vertically oriented organization to a more horizontal functioning. Fix processes instead of issues. Empower the workers to play a much more active role in any improvement initiatives because they are the ones who touch the product hands on and have a wealth of knowledge. Also engineers/designers should spend more time working hands on with the product instead of just creating design models in offices.

    Pros

Fantastic opportunity for job growth and advancement. Frontrunner in their industry so new projects and positions are always being developed. Lean six sigma manufacturing philosophies are highly utilized. 4-10 work weeks are in place in many areas of the company so no work most Fridays.

    Cons

Some projects require extremely long hours and huge time commitments. May be required to cycle night shits for a couple days each month. Savannah may also be pretty unexciting for many people not used to smaller Southern cities.

    Advice to Management

Overall experience was extremely pleasant. Hard to articulate any particular improvements that could be made... position just may not have been right for me.
