I worked at Gulley Greenhouse full-time

    Pros

If you're working seasonal there are a ton of benefits. You get to work with flowers, be around other happy people and be in the sunshine. You get a physical workout on a daily basis and for the most part good vibes!

    Cons

Be careful if you plan on sticking around longer than one season though. The surrounded glow of the job fades after you realize there are no structured and regulated pay raises (you will work for as cheap as possible until you demand an increase or quit), there is Rarely money poured back into the infrastructure of the company (resulting in the "quick-fix" and regular injuries to floor level employees getting paid base level wages), it is family owned (which can be a pro) but the unfortunate family dynamics sink into the management tactics the company uses, there isn't any employee protection (zero type of HR, if you have a complaint swallow it and sit quietly), and good luck at getting any sort of quality benefits. This company will give you less than one full week of vacation running multiple years as a full-time employee. Not even one full 40 hour week.

    Advice to Management

Structure your company. Find someone even somewhat organized, swallow the pride, and trust them to fix what you apparently havent been able to in 40+ years. Give basic benefits like scheduled reviews (that you actually give and take initiative in giving if you promise to do so at the hire date). Treat your employees like they aren't a piece of recyclable material (even though recycling seems to bring up a ton of internal turmoil for the owners) and they will stick around longer. Treat people fairly and good people will do good things for your company for a good amount of time. Pretty basic stuff.

    Pros

The Gulleys are great people to work for.
    Large employee discounts.
    Local business.
Have grown quite a bit since the beginning.

    Cons

Some of the management contradict each other.
There are not nearly as many opportunities for long-term employment as they make out.
The pay is not the greatest for new employees.

    Advice to Management

Better communicate necessary information to new hires that don't have clear oversight so they can do their job properly at the beginning of the season.
