I worked at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Great Benefits and wonderful medical insurance

    Cons

ICU staff very hard to deal with and work with, horizontal violence

    Advice to Management

Do not allow the senior RN's on the ICU to be little new nurses

    Pros

Great health insurance, wonderful providers to work with

    Cons

Staff FTEs eliminated, so employees have to do the work of 2-3 people. Management encourages cliques and pit staff against each other. Managers openly hostile yet no repercussions for their mistakes. Internal employee feedback surveys not taken seriously.

    Advice to Management

Only hire managers who actually have some experience doing the job or a degree in the field, not just nurses who are looking for more money or an easy promotion. Listen to your employees and take actions based on their employee perspective surveys!

I worked at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Co-workers. Health insurance ok in the beginning, got worse when they started cutting cost. Clean environment. Good brand. Good for your CV

    Cons

Salary increments almost non-existent. Few Managers are trained in being proper leaders. Doctors and OR staff think too highly of theirselves. I am sure their arms will fall off soon from all the patting of their own backs they do. God forbid u owe the hospital money for your own family's medical care, they will take u to court and garnish your wages. No offer to even deduct the amount U owe from your salary. Nope, they would rather take u to court.

    Advice to Management

Take some classes. Listen to your employees. Train then. More HR presence. Stop taking your employees to court!!!

long hours, bad supervisors, high cost for health care, idiots for co-workers

  8. "Great Staff"

    Pros

I absolutely loved the employees that I worked with. Since it is a hospital, there are obviously many regulations that need to be followed. My supervisors did a good job of training us on everything that we needed to follow, and were great at communication any changes that were occurring.

    Cons

I worked in Dietary, and often the nurses would treat us poorly.

I have been working at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This company really has it all together. I feel valued as an employee and I feel that every patient receives fantastic healthcare. It is satisfying to know that I contribute to such an excellent team. Jeff Thompson, CEO, has stopped to talk to me (a nobody) on multiple occasions just to check in and see how things are going. He parks in the regular employee parking lot, which impressed me.

    Cons

It is a bit small town. Sometimes I worry that promotions are based on who you know.
