I worked at Gunderson Dettmer full-time

    Pros

Kind, smart people. Better culture than many law firms.

    Cons

Like most law firms, staff satisfaction and engagement seem to be irrelevant. No training or accountability for managers. No path for advancement. Reactive, not proactive.

    Advice to Management

Try some employee surveys, at least? Find ways of rewarding good work and making people feel a part of something bigger.

I have been working at Gunderson Dettmer full-time

    Pros

More laid back than other law firms with a start-up culture. Great associates and colleagues. Awesome food and snack benefits available.

    Cons

Little official training in the paralegal group, and office politics is prevalent. Unless you are planning to go to law school, this is a short term approx 2 year job. Learning caps out at 6 months.

    Advice to Management

Put in place better training for the staff.

    Pros

    great working culture, awesome benefits

    Cons

difficult to move up the ladder for administrative staff in satellite offices--you gain more skills if you assist an attorney who cares about your growth. otherwise, you'll be given mundane tasks until you get fed up enough to leave.

    Advice to Management

    Take administrative staff/evaluations more seriously.
