I worked at Gursey | Schneider full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Chance to work with interesting case work. Salaries are competitive. Breakfast served once a week. Mixers with team once a month. The PTO time adds up. Partially paid Mammoth trip once a year.

    Cons

Company mixers are awkward. There are a large number of partners at this firm. Time is heavily tracked and billable hours are analyzed. Makes difficult to focus on work when thinking about time spent on projects.

    Advice to Management

Empower employees to formulate their own solutions to problems. Lessen the time tracking. Let people focus on what they do best. Don't make employees afraid to approach management.

I worked at Gursey | Schneider (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked at this firm for about a year as a senior accountant. The staff are mostly nice. They have fun events and a great soda machine.
    Opening a valley office.

    Cons

    -Lack of proper training
-Lack of upward movement within the firm. The firm is top heavy. Many seniors and managers. There isnt enough room to grow in the firm. Many people who deserved to get promoted to senior did not as there wasnt enough room.
-Promotions not always given by performance but by how much you are liked by the partners
-Cheap firm with less than market raises
-Lack of timely feedback on performance
-It doesnt seem like the partner's care about the employees
-Lack of overall organization and structure. It is a large firm run like a mom and pop shop.

    Pros

Excellent company benefits, paid OT, paid Insurance premiums, lots of learning opportunity

    Cons

In-cohesive management style leaves some employees overburdened while others sit idling.

    Advice to Management

Either set up structured employment hierarchy ala Big 4, or maintain quasi-formal structure of Partner to staff, don't muddle in between

    Pros

The high level of recognition and advancement set them apart. You actually will be recognized and rewarded for for acumen.

    Cons

The requisite knowledge is expected, and expertise is desired. Must be at top of game, or will not fit.

    Advice to Management

A sense of a need for a forum of advice and suggestions to improbe employee morale and appreciation would be most welcome.

Forensic accounting is very interesting, and every project seems to be different so the work never gets repetitive. Flexible hours and an open door policy with superiors.

    Cons

Sometimes the deadlines can be unrealistic, but that's any job really.

    Pros

Good experience overall. Good group of people and a lot of friend individuals.

    Cons

Human Resources doesn't tell you that they will terminate your 401k benefits and that you can't let it sit in the plan. They they transfer it to a safe harbor IRA that isn't invested in anything, and then charge you $100 of fees for the pleasure.

    Advice to Management

Tell your employees that you're going to terminate their 401k and the balance will just sit in some safe harbor IRA account collecting dust.
