I worked at Gustavus Adolphus College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ability to quickly and conveniently get shifts covered

    Cons

Supervisors are usually students that don't care to be there and break every assigned rule for convenience. I also saw the head of the department in the actual Cafe only once

    Advice to Management

Wander into the cafe every once in a while. Trust me, you'll catch something fast.

    Pros

Had an excellent time working 3 years at various positions in my major's department
The professor managing me also arranged for additional pay.

    Cons

Not enough work at times, lots of downtime where you feel like not much is getting done.
The college itself is super cheap in terms of how much they pay students.
The dean wanted to cut professors/resources from our department for the sake of utility, even though our department provides the significant portion of a core college service.

    Advice to Management

Work on programs that make student employees more employable outside of an educational environment.
Not much else to advise or worry about.

I worked at Gustavus Adolphus College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The hours were very reasonable and the work was enjoyable. The people I worked with were pretty nice and the work/life balance was good.

    Cons

It is a little awkward to work at the college where you just graduated. I would recommend trying to find other opportunities if you just graduated from Gustavus. Also, the town is not near anything exciting.

    Advice to Management

I would advise that you provide better opportunities for moving up within the system. It seems like a recent graduate who gets hired by the college to work in admissions only can be there for a year or two before moving out and there are no opportunities to move up.

    Pros

great culture, lots of flexibility, vacation time.

    Cons

salary increases don't come close to keeping up with inflation.
