    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Gwinnett County Police Department full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good benefits are about the only thing.

    Cons

Very understaffed. Employees are overworked with no help from supervisors. Supervisors are very lazy and lounge around all day. Work hours are long and will burn you out. Working holidays and weekends. Almost impossible to get time off because other employees take all the time because they don’t want to show up to work. Employees have no work ethic and are always calling out fake sick. People also don’t like to take...

    Advice to Management

Upper management has no experience doing this job. The people in charge should know how to work the systems and should know what we go through.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Gwinnett County Police Department full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Decent pay for experience required, good benefits. All training provided.

    Cons

High stress, inadequate training. Work hours were rough but expected.

    Advice to Management

Provide better training officers who actually care about training people rather than getting a pay bump for a training officer title.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Gwinnett County Police Department full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Gcpd is known for its training and professionalism toward the public

    Cons

Gcpd upper management is dirty and corrupt. They will stop at nothing to save face including making threats..stealing personal emails..setting up employees and creating hostile work environments for targeted employees. The internal affairs division is not unbiased and is controlled by the chiefs office and human resources. If you're a well liked white male you would do fine working here.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. STOP sweeping the dirt under the rug. You will be exposed publicly for ignoring the facts and allowing the conduct to continue.

      Negative Outlook

I have been working at Gwinnett County Police Department full-time for more than 8 years

      Pros

Every shift presents new challenges, advanced training is available, opportunities for lateral movement, take home vehicle program, uniform & equipment provided by employer, opportunities for part-time employment.

      Cons

Everyday Dangers & high stress, Low Salary, Lack of upward mobility, Lack of affordable healthcare options, poor morale among experienced officers, lack of retirement options, lack of family support, shift work, disconnect from upper echelon to lower ranks, politics, defeatism.

      Advice to Management

A legitimate increase salary for experienced officers is absolutely necessary, introduce aggressive retention program to retain experienced officers, re-institute retirement pension, introduce family support programs, expand health care options with increased employer participation, upper echelon needs to FIGHT for its officers & show it! Defeatism amongst ranks needs to be addressed.

I have been working at Gwinnett County Police Department full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Easy hiring process, available training, flexible assignments. Management is will to work with scheduling to accommodate training wish if possible. Overall enjoyable people to work with and get experience from but would recommend expecting to retire from this department.

      Cons

Not competitive what so ever in benefits package or pay. Due to lack of pay retention is horrible leave a heavy work load for officers who haven't jumped ship. Haven't been able to take off for months due to staffing shortage. Systems are outdated and still hand writing most paperwork when the rest of the country is years ahead. Department needs massive changes to become a premier department in the state but unfortunately...

      Advice to Management

Push for up dated systems. Tiburon should have been replaced years ago. You can't preach as being a premier agency when you are not offering anything to the officers and are years behind in technology
