I have been working at Gwinnett County full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

People are kind and fun to work with they share the history of gwinnett county. Many have been there for 15 plus years.

    Cons

The cio has been there for 3 years. He has created fear in all the IT employees. Many are jumping to fmla to protect themselves for a short time. Others are taking early retirement to get away from the madness. The deputy directors are powerless because the cio requires information. He goes around his deputy directors to managers and supervisors and yells at them. Then yells at the deputy directors for not knowing he had a conversation with their managers. Shouting do you know where your staff are? Always blaming people and process

    Advice to Management

Remove the toxic and fear mongering cio. There are some great people that work in IT. Let them work and get stuff done with out eagle eye always leeching over them. Bring back the benefits and happiness. The cio is the witch. As long as he remains nothing will get done and always blame others. He has tried to blockage new radios for fire and police, he hates dwr, and it ahows

I worked at Gwinnett County part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay for someone in high school or college. Easy work, and they make sure you're always up to date on your skills. If you request time off and make it very well known that you need that time off, usually they'll grant it for you.

    Cons

Awful management overall. I worked with them for three years and I probably had two good managers. Supervisors generally stay the same and aren't bad people, just really bad at picking managers and assistant managers.

    Advice to Management

Pick better managers and assistant managers. Listen to employees who request time off. Not really sure what else.

    Pros

stable employment, flexibility for work life

    Cons

no career path, benefits are less than what is offered in the private sector.

    Advice to Management

Need to value education and experience more than "who you know" when promoting. Need to provide a career path to keep good talent, especially since benefits are less than what is offered in the private sector.
