I worked at Gwinnett County full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The culture can survive days with the other clerks, assuming there isn't one who causes travesty for literally all the other clerks.

The benefits are great despite having to deal with typical government management attitudes (they aren't above anyone but pretend they are. It must be their substantial difference in paygrade).

'The' Clerk is great, but the office management creates a damper on actually being there.

Some members of management have existed to help problems and shield the reality in the above offices.

    Cons

Turnover is high because of people who allow micro management become toxic and intimidating. The work load is heavy, however it takes the right person to keep people there and motivated. Fake nice and plastic attitude does not keep a team together--let alone around.

Plenty of great people have been let go from this place because of management drilling talent into the ground and essentially mentally abusing them from various ways. The people who have endured are promoted to other areas of the County, while some who are unfortunate are dismissed.

Management absolutely does not resolve any issues with employees with a superiority complex. Professional attitudes should be seen with people in actual careers; not in an office where you become complacent.

Talent is not properly recognized versus loyalty. It took becoming loyal to achieve anything rather than spending countless hours doing consistent hard work--the same goes for those who decided not to suck up but still worked hard. Again, plenty of talented people were cast aside for those who were in favor of appearance rather than the grunt work.

    Advice to Management

Hire better management. Each department needs a true leader-not a boss. We all have pet peeves, but a leader does not let a pet peeve drive their motivation to make the work environment better--it makes it worse.

    Pros

    Some good people work here.

    Cons

Word to the wise the CIO Abe kani has created a Hostile work environment with in IT. During his time at Gwinnett 3 deputy directors of infrastructure have resigned. None lasting more than 11 months. The amount of stress created by this man chasing noise is a travesty. I have never seen anything like it in my career. Being my first time working for government this was a horrible introduction. I have learned Abe kani was fired in St. Louis as CIO for creating a toxic work environment, from there he worked as a project analyst at dell then jumped to Atlanta government with in 3 years he was asked to resign by the administrator for creating a hostile work environment. He made his way to Gwinnett where he continues this blame and shame style of leadership. Do yourself a favor and walk away. It will never get better. The recent deputy director of infrastructure resigned within 3 months. Your stress level will increase 10 fold chasing noise. Preventing you from moving the county forward where it needs to be. Now add the county administrator telling staff that he would fire everyone. Combine glens style with Abe you have a horrifying cocktail of toxicity. Wish in followed my gut feeling before accepting. Worst mistake I have ever made in my career. Never again

    Advice to Management

Why would you maintain such a hostile work environment. The previous HR director reported that there were more than 48!complaints about Abe Kani and yet nothing has been done other than the county administration said to coach Abe rather than terminate his leadership. HR is powerless
