I have been working at Gwinnett County full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very regimented, if you like being a govenrment cog in a wheel, similar to the military then this is the job for you. Benefits are pretty good, retirement is pretty good and they have a great wellness program. Lots of good health programs, very impressive for a county. They have a very high opinion of themselves and push employees to display that excellence.

    Cons

Salary employees MUST clock in just like hourly workers. You MUST take a lunch hour and if you don't you get in trouble. Conversely if you are forced to work through your lunch hour they won't let you leave early, you MUST write off at least 30 minutes even if you didn't get a lunch or face getting in trouble. I've even heard they will let you go if it happens too often. There are lots of micromanagers in higher positions and turnover is high in many departments because employees are just tired of it. I've seen employees who were there for 10yrs, even 20 yrs decide to resign because they are beyond tired of the micromanaging BS that they endure on a daily basis. Once their resignation was given, nobody from higher up even bothered to reach out to ask why. I think if a 20 yr employee was leaving, I would want to know why, wouldn't you?
