I have been working at Gymboree Play and Music (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was exciting and fun to work with families and children in the community. You definitely grow attached to some of them. It was very rewarding. Great way to network with families that need a babysitter.

    Cons

It was definitely hard to make rent, but it helped me get through college. Teaching and playing with a classroom of up to 20 children and each parent is paying big money for their child to be there... the teachers should definitely make more. I ended up leaving because I was offered twice as much pay, under the table to nanny for a family that attended classes.

I worked at Gymboree Play and Music (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Rewarding- praise from parents. Love the kids. Good training program. I felt like i learned a lot. I would still recommend working there it's a great first job or a part time job but not a full time job.

    Cons

No room for growth, no benefits for employees, Corporate is a disaster. Closures all over the nation. corporate does nothing to market the play programs, they focus all of their attention on the clothing store.

    Advice to Management

I feel bad for the franchisees because corporate makes it hard for them to succeed. Only the rich can afford gymboree so the ones doing well are in Manhattan and places like that.

    Pros

The Play & Music Division is small and most members work & play well w/ eachother!
    Cohesive environment!

    Cons

With retail management overseeing P&M division it creates a huge divide. Pay too low to national average.

    Advice to Management

Learn the business dynamics & differences of a lucrative membership based opposed to a retail-only business
