I worked at Gymboree part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The communication between stores in the district is excellent. The stores are very family oriented in a way and they promote from within. The customers and children are always fun. You'll see a lot of regulars there.

    Cons

They do require a lot with the limited amount of hours that they give you and end up wasting a lot of them due to middle of the day sale changes. In my location, the training could have been better. I was taught basic procedures, but as far as company operational policies and such I learned on my own through their files on their software or by calling other stores and asking their managers. I felt that the district manager didn't know or didn't care to see what was going on in my location. Sales were down a lot and there was a huge lack of supervision from the store manager. She would often get credit for the things that I did. I had to report a few things to my DM that would be grounds for termination, yet that never happened. The company does waste a lot on shipping product stores aren't selling and not enough on things that stores need. They need to change how they allocate merchandise. Customers love Gymboree and theirs a chance to turn the company around, they just need to be much more organized and mindful of what actually goes on in the business and with their employees.

    Advice to Management

Be a lot more organized and hold bad employees accountable for poor performance or actually termination their employment.

I worked at Gymboree part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Awesome co workers, great discount, very nice easy to sell product.

    Cons

Position was part time with no benefits.

    Advice to Management

Company should implement a better training package for assistant managers and supervisors other than just what the manager is willing to share with you .

    I worked at Gymboree full-time

    Pros

Good pay and good benefits. Some flexibility with scheduling.

    Cons

It's retail. They expect you to be master sellers. A lot of pressure to make sales goal and constant change because the company is not doing well financially, so they're trying to figure out what to do. My location actually closed and they are currently filing bankruptcy.

I worked at Gymboree full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The customers were the best I've ever had! I love the moms coming in with the babies!

    Cons

FLOORSETS!!! ALLOCATION! CORPORATE! NON-EXISTANT PAYROLL you are the manager and the seller, you have to lock your door to use the restroom! A lot of SINGLE COVERAGE 125 payroll matrix, one partime ASM ,Unrealistic expectations! NO WORK LIFE BALANCE! BURN OUT, I ended up hospitalized and out sick! and NO I am not being bitter or dramatic. I happily resigned after 2 years! My health has not been the same since!

    Advice to Management

Go back to the drawing board! Something is very wrong here, look into these reviews and you should get an idea as to what is wrong. As you can see, most of these comments are negative so that should tell you a pattern.

I have been working at Gymboree full-time

    Pros

Gymboree has store managers do weekly surveys about what the customer was saying about the sales and marketing which I think is great because it shows they are really trying to improve things.

    Cons

Gymboree is a bit unstable right now. They expect you to run a business with only 118.5 base hours and 3 hours for replenishment. Basically only store managers are to be working full shifts. Everyone else is to work 3-4 hour shifts, which makes turn over extremely high. You can get a store bonus every month if you make your "plan" but they goal you so much higher than your comp #'s its almost impossible to make your plan no matter how engaging you are with your customer. They moved customer service and IT service desk to India and its extremely hard to understand them. Gave all of the stores iPads to use for all office work, which is fine, but I think the company should have invested in new registers since they are still using a POS system from 2004. It takes five minutes to check one person out.

I worked at Gymboree full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fun and good benefits! I enjoyed the product as I believed in the quality and liked merchandising the new product lines.

    Cons

Screaming kids all day! Upper management didn't appear to appreciate employees loyalty. High shrink stores due to ease of shoplifting high valued product because of being small high priced items.

    Advice to Management

    Retention is most important.

I have been working at Gymboree full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    medical benefits, PTO, bi-weekly pay

    Cons

Due to lack of associates and/or associate availability, inconvenient and tedious work schedule

    Advice to Management

Provide assistance to store managers by helping them staff stores. No one wants to work for minimum wage when stores adjacent are paying much more.
