I worked at H.B. Fuller full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay, benefits. Lots of hours of complete pandamonium.

    Cons

Individual work load is insane, computer system for data entry is cryptic and full of problems often forcing the evening crews to stay many hours past end of shift to ensure data is entered correctly. Good ol boys code amongst the old timers.

    Advice to Management

Fix the computer data entry system, hire qualified workers instead of relying on yahoos from temporary agencies.

I have been working at H.B. Fuller full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, interesting industry, challenging work, and flexible work hours. Also works within an integrated ERP software system which makes sourcing and learning independently a lot easier.

    Cons

A lot of change in middle management. Without continuity existing employees are not mentored or vetted properly, which leads to frustration and dissatisfaction.

    Advice to Management

    Value and support internal employees.

    Pros

Good ideas in the company. Dedicated people with enthusiasm to get things done and to continuously improve on the job. Very open environment for new thoughts and ideas.

    Cons

Too much short term oriented in goals and objectives. Target often not properly broken down from top to bottom, therefore not necessarily realistic.

    Advice to Management

More long term focus with sufficient staffing and realistic plans will be helpful. More listening from bottom to top will be motivating.

I worked at H.B. Fuller as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

good hourly wage, work-life balance, good management, great people to work with and fun innovative atmosphere, nice labs and equipment

    Cons

Established hierarchy and system of employees who have been there forever can be hard to work yourself into, unwilling to hire and keep good talent/workers, a lot of changeover in higher leadership during my time there.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the insights of those working under you, make a more concerted effort to hire and keep good talent when you find it.

I have been working at H.B. Fuller full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

H B Fuller is full of friendly and fun people. There is always a laugh to be had. Management does not micomanage.

    Cons

HB Fuller makes a point of talking about the opportunity for professional development, but it must be entirely employee driven. Customer Service at HB Fuller is about metrics. Taking on additional responsibilities and projects does not play into consideration for promotion. Management is friendly, but their purpose is to reduce employee turn over.

    Advice to Management

Recognize talent within your organization and actively work with the employee on their professional development.

I worked at H.B. Fuller full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This company needs solid leaders and people dedicated to execution. Opportunities are available especially to younger less experienced individuals. They do pay well overall.

    Cons

Difficult political environment. Growth has been limited over the last several years primarily due to lack of clear focus and taking on too many very large projects at once with a failure to execute well. There is an environment of micromanagement which hinders execution and delivery of value.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees who are trying to communicate the issues in your large projects, allow them to develop realistic timelines for achievements, and give them the opportunity to develop solutions. Develop clear focus and execute in focus markets and segments.

I worked at H.B. Fuller full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Relatively easy access to executive management. Appears to have appropriate long-term strategic vision. Collaborative work environment with ability to have day-to-day schedule flexibility (depending upon your role in the organization).

    Cons

Very lean organization where middle management has to work extra hard -makes execution of strategy difficult. Integration of acquisitions and organization changes not always smooth. Poor performers sometimes are kept onboard for too long.

    Advice to Management

Keep your eyes on the long term strategies and work to more quickly address the delay in benefits realized from current major initiatives. Really get serious about shorter term sacrifices that will ultimately support these longer term objectives.

    Pros

Leading market position. Good technology and technical support. Strong desire to grow and compete on a global scale. Opportunity to communicate to all levels of management.

    Cons

High turnover in sales team demonstrates a change in culture - possibly not for the better. Integration of acquisitions taking a long time and a distraction from core business. Prefers to hire ex National Starch employees to re-create a culture that once existed there.

    Advice to Management

Create a new culture that is not from GE or National Starch. Henkel can be beat, but not in a few quarters. It will take a long-term view with some patience to do so.

I worked at H.B. Fuller full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good people, good campus, love the nature preserve

    Cons

Management of the lab side can be quick to assume things, makes really dumb decisions. ie: There's no room to put anything, but they tell you to keep the lab clean. We can't work and keep the lab clean at the same time!

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people, they're the heart of the company. Stop being so stingy with benefits!
