    I worked at H. D. Smith full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Vacation and Pto are granted easily. Lunch is great- 1 hr. People are easy to deal with in different departments.

    Cons

Owners and CEO do not know what all employees are capable of and listen to middle management who is very ineffective. Starting to realize this is becoming a low end company to work. Outside sales people are really there only because they need jobs desperately. You should really sell. You are losing more money than you are gaining- it's just a matter of time.

    Advice to Management

Get an overhaul on all of your management- sales, corporate management etc... face it you just can't compete with the top 3. What are you thinking? Even the best employees can't do it. It's just the structure of your company.

    I worked at H. D. Smith full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Not much to state positive if you are not one of the favored employees. HR is inadequate, too much high end management that doesn't work smart.

    Cons

Favoritism. Lack of current industry trends, not listening to advice. Not understanding jobs of various departments. Terrible raises if any at all. Rewarding bad work.

    Advice to Management

Listen when you are given advice. Do not keep encouraging dishonesty or punishing loyal employees.

    I worked at H. D. Smith

    Pros

Decent benefits, inside sales and customer service are awesome!

    Cons

Lack of support, pay is so so, immediate management & upper management are so far removed from the reality of day to day issues and concerns by reps as well as customers, there way or the highway mentality even for customers, they are trying to play with the big boys , however they do not have the resources or support to even compete! It's just a really sad direction the company is gone in and I feel for the people... that are still there. I honestly believe they will sell in the next few years.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to come back down to reality or sell the company! This corporate change in the sales structure is only going to faulter and customers are leaving H.D. Left and right. Once you lose one customer word spreads like wild fire and expect to lose a whole lot more! Listen to the reps they are your front line on a day to day basis and you are losing good reps because of the way you are treating them!
