I have been working at H.D. Vest full-time

    Pros

It's a fun environment and the work is simple. Not a lot of extra hours needed. The work is basic enough that a typical 8 -5 day will be more than enough time to get work done.

    Cons

The marketing department is really more of a communications department and the opportunities for advancement are extremely limited. The team lacks structure, knowledge, and guidance. The work can be very boring at times.

Also, company leadership is not diverse and preference is given to those that are "insiders." It is very difficult to grow your career. A change in leadership is desperately needed.

I worked at H.D. Vest full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They offer job security if you have a strong high work ethic.

    Cons

It takes an average of 10 years employment at the firm before you enter management rank. You need to be an "insider" & in good standing with fellow employees. It was not the right environment for me, and I felt that my work ethic was taken advantage of. And as a standard, employees are underpaid. Work from home options are not offered by the company though it is provided to "insiders." Working from home IS feasible.

    Advice to Management

Allow room for growth for those who offer a strong work ethic. There are indeed individuals within the firm who do NOT exert those skills, and they seem to be swept under the rug, yet they maintain their positions - this is deemed unfair by those who work hard. I wouldn't bother entering into the Top 100 companies to work for survey because in general, employees don't feel that the company provides the benefits to fulfill that rank.

I have been working at H.D. Vest full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people you work with are great and working with Advisors is entertaining. If you go to national conference next year there are so many networking opportunities.

    Cons

Right now they are in a transitionary period so it can feel a little uncertain at times.

I have been working at H.D. Vest part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Independence to work at my own pace, very helpful staff.

    Cons

This is the only B/D I have ever been affiliated with, so I have nothing to compare them to. Some reps at other firms tell me they are not well branded enough to be recognized by the public.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up!

I have been working at H.D. Vest full-time

    Pros

HD Vest is full of great people and the work / life balance is hard to beat. The senior leadership is rock solid. It's one of the few places where you can learn how business should really be done.

    Cons

I don't really have much negative to say. Pay is fair but never outstanding. Existing career paths are limited. It is possible to create your own career path, but few have been successful.
