I worked at H.T. Hackney full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of good people to work with, and a fair amount of independence among the office staff. Warehouse is a little different, but I worked in Operations and it was great. I developed some long lasting professional relationships. The CEO Bill Samson is a man of values, and he believes in his company, theres something to be said for that.

    Cons

Pay scales are low but they make up for it in other areas such as job security. If you do like you're supposed to and work hard they do offer advancement opportunities. Each site is slightly different, but at Johnson City we were like a family.

    Advice to Management

Pay a little more, recognize value in your warehouse staff.

I have been working at H.T. Hackney full-time

    Pros

    * Amazing people from the Regional VP down.
    * Owner is a "walk the talk" guy. Very personable and down to earth.
    * Intelligent & dedicated workforce.
    * Company has a clear vision of where they are and want to be in the market.
    * A lot of tenure in the ranks. People stick with the company and morale is very good. Management and employees have a good synergy and collaborate well.
    * Employee-friendly organization. The closest to a true "family atmosphere" I've found anywhere. Easy to say, hard to accomplish but HT Hackney has this as part of their mission and it shows.
    * Management is receptive of new ideas and not stuck in past successes / failures.
    * Top-notch HR manager in Lenoir City.
    * Approachable managers. Expectations are clear and they are able to effectively listen before making decisions.

    Cons

    * This industry can have a high learning curve with the complexities of the business. Best advice is to make some connections early with co-workers to help the process along. Hackney employees are knowledgable and friendly across the board and are very welcoming to newcomers. Don't be shy and the work makes sense quickly.

    Advice to Management

My opinions are from the viewpoint of a relatively new employee. The culture at HT Hackney is simply top-shelf and unlike anything I've seen. It's an exciting time to be at the company as technologies evolve and the business changes to meet customers' needs. Love the openness and welcoming atmosphere - keep it up!

I worked at H.T. Hackney full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You can dress down, and most of your coworkers are nice. Set hours, pretty much the same thing all the time.

    Cons

The management should not be in management. They only have the job because they actually stayed at the place for longer than a week. Turnover is extremely high. Managers gossip and complain. Moral is very low. No raises and HR is a joke. PTO days aren't paid until the end of the year.

    Advice to Management

Get managers that are actually qualified to do the job. You managers don't even know how to do the job that they are supervising. Should probably change that.
