    Pros

Great coworkers, benefits, work environment. Management practices have been improving. Company posesses very high ethical standards.

    Cons

Not a huge firm, so competing for large jobs seems more difficult.

    Advice to Management

    None.

    Pros

The company overall is a good company. They provide excellent benefits and they do care about employees. Plus it is respectful even though some do not like one another there is not yelling or treating people negatively to their face anyway.

    Cons

Accountability is needed. The person that runs Chicago doesn't do much for the office but provide negative energy. He was demoted and still here and for what? The engineers in Chicago are not busy and we are not winning some of those challenging projects.

    Advice to Management

Hold some of these senior people accountable.

I have been working at H W Lochner full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Allowed to build your own workload (I've been doing traffic planning, accounting, and audit package preparation)
    - People are great to work with
    - Very flexible with usage of PTO
    - Benefits/starting salary are very competitive
    - Will pay for graduate classes if deemed necessary

    Cons

    - Working with government clients means you will probably be subjected to a lot of external bureacracy
    - Deadlines can be tight due to client pressure

    Advice to Management

Keep it up, Lochner is a great place to work. There is a good balance of freedom to choose one's workload and direction from upper management as far as what needs to be done and when.

I have been working at H W Lochner (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Mid size firm that competes with much larger engineering firms. Have always found the people here to be helpful and interested in my development. Office here has some social activities that we can get to know each other better in, but more would be appreciated. Bonuses have been great. Company stock performance has been outstanding!

    Cons

Lochner only does transportation, so the list of clients is shorter than in other much larger firms. However I like that the CEO says hello to me every time I see him.

    Advice to Management

Work on keeping communication lines open. More social activities would be appreciated. Consider more flexible work arrangements .

    Pros

    Flex schedule
    Good work/life balance
    Decent benefits

    Cons

Incompetent management that runs the business like a mob... plenty of micro management, intimidation and threats from higher ups so if you're not constantly pleasing someone they will come for your thumbs. Perfect heaven for the bottom feeder who wants to collect a guaranteed paycheck because there is very little to no room to grow for average Joe... no incentive for the little guy whatsoever. I spent over a decade there and never saw an annual increase of 2% and bonuses are quite rare or insulting.

    Pros

Everyone is always willing to help and is very friendly. I was able to gain alot of experience before moving on to my next job.

    Cons

Sometimes there is not alot of interaction between the different departments so things get lost in translation and work is not as productive

    Pros

The company really tries to go above and beyond to ensue employees are confident.

    Cons

The small department that I work in needs to be reviewed by upper management

    Advice to Management

Take a look at the CEI office in FL

    I worked at H W Lochner full-time

    Pros

Had the opportunity to work with some great people.

    Cons

Underpaid. Senior management micro-manages PM's and technical staff not allowing them to properly serve their clients. Marketing/BD group lacked clear vision and was very unsuccessful in pursuits during my time in the office. High staff turnover due to numerous bad hires. Significant stress for employees to be completely billable.

    Advice to Management

Take some time to step back and look at the source of the problems.

    I worked at H W Lochner full-time

    Pros

The pay was competitive and benefits are good. In general it's a good environment to work in.

    Cons

The type of work pursued in the South is not comparable to the vision of the company. Management shows obvious favoritism and makes some decision based on personal feelings rather than what is best for the office/region.

    Advice to Management

Figure out what type of work you want to pursue and focus your energy on that. Market the client! Encourage all of your staff, not just those people that tell you what you want to hear.

I have been working at H W Lochner full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

None compared to other companies in this industry.

    Cons

This is a dishonest company. Employees are encouraged my management to falsify time sheets. The company tried to enter design build but failed due to their unethical behavior. The company is currently involved in a major lawsuit with Granite Construction due to their unethical behavior

    Advice to Management

Get a plan. Value your employees. Don't expect employees to fund your business pursuits on their own dime. Realize that being a company know for integrity is better than a company know for corporate greed. Let everyone share in the company. You are not really “employee owned” when only employees with the title of “senior vice president” can buy company stock. BECOME AN ETHICAL COMPANY.
