I have been working at H&E Equipment Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Nice facilities
    Good co-workers
    Decent benefits
    Decent pay

    Cons

*Good ole boy culture runs rampant
*Corporate being next door to branch leads to meddling in every aspect, from operations to hiring.
*Tenured employees aren’t held accountable. The same poor behavior is never corrected. For that matter, hardly anyone is held accountable.
*Old 1980’s management model of belittling and name calling. Toxic environment.
    * Although employee retention is supposedly a point of emphasis, the turnover continues to get worse and worse.
    * Absolutely zero cross training for employees. If there is a resignation, that person’s job function ceases until another hire is made.
    * No obvious career advancement opportunities. No managers are “building their bench” to replace them as they move on/up.
    * Training non-existent other than manufacturer mandated training.
    * The entire location has forgotten what “customer service” is. It’s all about the bottom line. Customer service is a give and take process. There is very little give and a bunch of take.
    * For a company this size, there is very little standardization from branch to branch, even within the same region. Have no idea what our regional management is attempting to accomplish.
    * Relatively zero input from management on how to increase sales, just told to do so.
    * Proactive behavior literally non-existent. Total reactive culture.
    * Management not open to suggestions from their employees. If you suggest something and it reflects poorly on someone else, there will be repercussions.

    Advice to Management

    1) Open your eyes and ears. There are people, even in positions beneath you, that sometimes have a better, more efficient, idea.
    2) Set your employees up for advancement.
    3) Focus more on improving and streamlining your existing business instead of bull rushing forward into expansion. Some areas have wonderful technology, some are literally still using pen and paper or whiteboards.
    4) Invest in your local employees. We get constant email announcements of more and more corporate positions being created and filled, yet we let our tenured, experienced operations employees move on to other companies.
    5) CHANGE THE CULTURE! It amazes me how this large of a publicly traded company still runs like a private mom & pop. Some management leadership training may be in order.

The corporate environment may be different, but at the branch level, this place needs a thorough disinfecting.

I worked at H&E Equipment Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good coworkers, decent equipment fair pay
overall I liked the job but the unfair treatment and poor organizational skills and lack of being present of manager really killed our branch

    Cons

Attitudes differ from branch to branch manager at location I was at was pathetic he made false accusations on people made lots of promises that wee never kept when went to human resources with our concerns manager knew the next day things that were said in private and confidence then did his due diligence in firing anyone that he wanted to. Some people could do nothing wrong

    Advice to Management

Revamp your HR complaint procedures and remember that employees make the company and a poor manager can ruin the morale and attitudes of great employees
Insurance was expensive and bonuses were ended without compensation

    Pros

Since management is clueless about what goes on in the field , you can pretty much do anything as long as you don't have an accident .

    Cons

Couldn't care less about the customers or employees as long as you hit your numbers.

    Advice to Management

Stop surrounding yourself with friends and family

    Pros

Management and Co workers are great people and do make the days enjoyable.

    Cons

days are long and being on salary you do not get paid the overtime for working the 10-11 hours due to you must get everything done before end of day.

    Advice to Management

Continue to work on making the environment better and making the pay equal if not better than competing companies.

I worked at H&E Equipment Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

NOT ALL BRANCHES OF H&E ARE LIKE THE ONE I WORKED FOR.
    • Laid back atmosphere /not very strict
    • Food sometimes provided

    Cons

•Issues with one of the long time employees there- many people had issues with her and her behavior but she got away with it I guess bc she worked there so long
    • Rude, unprofessional, disrespectful, and petty behavior
    • Management was a joke- I went several times to try and get the issues resolved that I was having and both times dismissed with yeah but that's just how she is ?
    • Management was clue less and passive
    • The training LOL yeah good luck with that.

    Advice to Management

Take a leadership/management course, branch manager needs to learn humility and quit letting his ego run his behavior AND listen and take action for your employees. When an environment is toxic, nothing really good can come from it and people can't grow. Also, quit being scared... Your the managers/leaders so act like it.
