I have been working at H&E Equipment Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people. Been there a long time. Caring, hard working. Leaders do care. Trust me. It isn't easy running a 3000 employee company in a cutthroat business.

    Cons

Benefits are expensive but management is aware and trying hard to make improvements for their people that they do care about.

    Advice to Management

Keep always being the good people that you are.

I have been working at H&E Equipment Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company promotes from within and seems to genuinely care about the employees

    Cons

Lack of training with a wide variety of equipment. company is not consistent IE: service trucks are all mis-matched trucks/bed with mismatched decals.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to get training from our equipment suppliers. Get a company wide guide for equipment appearance.

    Pros

The company is run by honest, reasonable and accessible people.
Executives will make time for any employee who has something to say, and they listen.
Medium-Large size company with a small business atmosphere.
Hard work pays off here. If you put in the work and stick around, good things happen.
    Great place to work.

    Cons

Compensation is not as high as it should be. I could be somewhere else making a substantial amount more, but I've been with this Company for almost 5 years and hope to stay. That should tell you a lot about the people and the atmosphere at H&E.

    Advice to Management

    Review compensation data.

    Pros

Accessibility to upper management from the field. Genuine desire to do right for employees. We have a sense of accomplishment and always moving forward. Recent good hires are moving the company in the right direction.

    Cons

Systems and IT not up to date but appear to slowly be moving in the right direction.

    Advice to Management

Simplify processes and systems to increase everyone's productivity.

    Pros

If you're part of the club, you'll get away with almost anything. You'll be allowed to work from home when your kids are sick (even though it's against policy in your role), and even get promoted into a position that allows you to be able work from home without others complaining.

    Cons

Employees who mention the unfairness and inconsistency are labeled as troublemakers. Racism is alive and well, perhaps not in the HR department, but in the managers that actually make hiring decisions, promotions, and decide raises. HR does little more than provide worksheets to ensure that the managers are following legal guidelines conducting interviews, much less making hiring decisions.

    Advice to Management

Stop investing in 6 figure employees, stop the micro-management of your branch locations, start doing more for your hourly employees.

    Pros

Great mechanic crew, fairly new fleet and great machine availability for the sales team (when they are actually getting rentals).

    Cons

The VERY few great district managers could rarely rely on their superior to support them in their decisions. The particular RVP was known for self promotion at the expense of others.

    Advice to Management

Support your people instead of bullying them.

    Pros

Ok pay expensive benefits have very knowledgeable workers and co workers that know exactly how to do their job, corporate policy's are a joke at best one dumb decision after another.

    Cons

Well where do we start........ corporate office is so disconnected from their employees very low moral. Constantly changing managements pay structure that creates problems for sales, parts, etc. departments bill each other to boost their monthly numbers so they look good. They take money from their sales reps if a customer doesn't pay in 120 days and even after the customer pays they still keep the money and don't pay the sales reps their money back. The only successful branches are the ones who don't follow corporation direction. Corporate office rules by fear so they have spineless, gutless managers working for them to follow their stupidity and or sneak behind the corporate polices to get the job done correctly.
I have watched great employees turn into pay check employees doing the bare minimum and to stay off the corporate radar so sad to watch.

    Advice to Management

Change the corporate rule of fear remember a corporate office is there to support train and guide not to dictate. Quit being greedy take care of your employees at all costs because without them their will be no corporate office to ride the pretty little high house y'all are on!!! Quit stealing bonuses, incentives, commissions from your workers it will cost you more in the long run with upset employees. And most importantly you have employees that are very knowledgeable and have lots of experience listen to them, because the have forgotten more then most of your senior middle and lower management knows.
The company will never grow until you allow the branches to have the right tools and resources (equipment) to do so.
Change your incentive/bonus program to the branches profit. Right now you have every department working against each other to protect their bonuses.
