    I worked at H&M full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good. Colleagues are amazing!

    Cons

Absolutely no support from the district team!!!! One of the worst districts I've ever worked in. Tote back ups are a normal thing. Most stores have a 300-700 tote back up because the controller makes us cut hours based on the lack of sales. So this means no floor coverage and no one to process totes!!! The stores are a mess because there is no realistic support from this district team, or regional team.

    Advice to Management

Stop opening up new stores and focus on the current needs in the stores that are open! This brand is suffering because the focus is no longer taking care of people. Invest more resources into helping existing stores be maintained. Take it back to basics and keep it simple. Also there is to much product in these stores!!!!! Customers can barely shop and staff can barely keep the product well merchandised because of the amount of product that is received. Where is the support and REALISTIC expectations?

    Pros

I met some awesome people there and learned quiet a few skills.
Discount was nice too along with the benefits if you qualified for them.

    Cons

Terrible communication, work load is too much for the small pay, lots of favouritism.
They promote the worst people just to fill the spots.
They treat the good managers like complete dirt and the bad ones get away with everything.

    Advice to Management

Get to know your employees. Treat the managers that actually do their job a lot better and maybe start paying attention to the lazy trash ones.

I have been working at H&M part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay, the people, the benefits.
Ability to take on new responsibilities.

    Cons

-Very low hours in the winter-time, plan on getting a second job then.
-Horrible internal development, promotions are impossible.

    Advice to Management

Work on developing your current employees and allow them to get the pay raise for the additional responsibilities. District needs to respect a store's internal development.

    I worked at H&M full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    -great health/dental/vision benefits
    -good vacation accrual
-good company for those who are just beginning their career in retail, they will provide you will tactical skills
-clear routines and processes for the organization

    Cons

    where do I start???
-the company has 7 values they live by but no one really practices it truly, it's really just a bunch of BS
-huge workload, high expectations and no positive feedback given just constructive
-district team consisting of a sales manager, controller, visual, facilities, security, and HR do absolutely nothing! they visit, call out all the things being done incorrectly and most of all aren't even friendly or inspirational. JUST COMPLETELY LAZY! too many cooks in the kitchen doing nothing. need I say more?
-store managers are put into the role without having the basic leadership competentcies. they will teach you all the tactical skills but have very little skills on the interpersonal. development is more than teaching the technical part of your job, it also requires interpersonal skills to deal with people.
-compensation is below average but you are told it's above other retailers. do the research, you will find it's not the case
-promotions are based on a popularity contest and favoritism not on the true skillset of performing your job description
-if you want to move into management, if you are liked, perform at your job and say yes to everything, you will move up quickly. if you are seen as someone who speaks their mind and gives push back respectfully and disagrees with the norm, then say goodbye to your career growth as these attributes will slow ur career down at this company
-the company focuses way too much on efficiency but has ultimately lost at effectiveness at being a leader
-there is a difference between being a leader and a manager. h&m can create managers not leaders
-managers are never on the same page due to a lack of common goals. everyone has their own agenda

    Advice to Management

-invest more in developing core leadership competencies with managers
-be more competitive with your salary compensation

I have been working at H&M full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    The benefits....relatively easy job...paid vacations

    Cons

Depending on what district you're in depends on how much top management cares. I'm in a not so good district so it sucks but other places like Cali I've heard are better and care about your growth within the company.

    Advice to Management

Create better designs and maybe HM stores will make more money. It's not the employees it's the sucky designs/prints that are being produced. Several customers have commented to me recently as well. Hire you're old team of designers from 2 years ago so your stores can start making money like they used to.
