I worked at H&R Block part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I worked in an office near a University and Medical center where the clientele was on the higher end. Because of the expertise neede the majority of my coworkers were great professionals who had already retired from one career and enjoyed doing taxes to stay busy. Always had free coffee at the office. Comfortable amount of Autonomy or ability to work at ones own discretion. District management were real stand-up people, and down to earth.

    Cons

Had to fight tooth and nail for overtime as a secretary. Some folks aren't cut out to help people with taxes, and they tend to create complications for the secretary, because the secretary is the front line for disgruntled clients. And near the end of tax season(April 15th), personnel should be prepared to have a tax marathon that is more like a non stop flow of confused circus actors streaming through the front door. In short, it gets rough for everyone near the end. However it is a good team building phase.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to allow people to work overtime that doesn't impact their work performance. People like myself at the time need overtime, especially at low wage. Their has to be some kind of win-win situation.

    Pros

Independent and flexible work schedule. You can pretty much make your own schedule and come whenever you want, good way to build clients

    Cons

Low pay, first year tax professionals make $9 an hour. No benefits since it is an hourly position, it's also seasonal

I have been working at H&R Block full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Love doing taxes, managing people, working with intelligent people

    Cons

Not year-round employment, pay per hour drastically decreases in summer plus limited hours = chapter 13 bankrupt loyal employee

    Advice to Management

Find a way to compensate your best employees year-round and you won't have to spend resources rehiring and retraining more people year over year. Also start remembering your clients are people, not dollar signs.

I have been working at H&R Block part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very little stress, job demands were reasonable, and easy for me to manage. I was given plenty of instructions on how to do what was expected of me before I came in to work, and co-workers never hesitated to help me understand things when I asked.

    Cons

Little to none. Would have liked higher pay/more hours, but other than that, nothing about the company or the work done stands out as negative.

    Advice to Management

None, that I can think of. I had a very positive experience here, and only wish my position weren't temporary!

I have been working at H&R Block part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Flexible scheduling
    - Great associate recognition system

    Cons

    - Low low low salary - $9/hour after having to go through about 6 weeks of training/education
    - Management expects employees to basically be on call - which makes it hard to have a second job
    - Upper management is out of touch with clients (as seen by insanely high fees) and individual offices

    Advice to Management

Please try giving associates a liveable wage. Also, I suggest listening to store/branch leaders about policies - instead of making one policy for the entire organization. Different offices have different needs.
