I worked at H&R Block part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Tax advisor position is very challenging. Get to meet lots of people. Schedules could be flexible. Great CPE training.

    Cons

Face to face interaction with clients could be uncomfortable when come to pricing issues. Have to keep up with CPE (continue professional credit) 18 credits per year plus company job training to get rehired before end of November. If you have other job, this could be stressful. No benefits for seasonal employees.

I have been working at H&R Block (More than a year)

    Pros

The people are great to work with

    Cons

Pay is too low and little chance for full time work

    Advice to Management

Invest in more long term and full time employees.

    I worked at H&R Block full-time

    Pros

Get your taxes done for free. The building has a gym and rec room. They give out free tickets to events regularly.

    Cons

Other departments I'm sure are different, but my department was way understaffed, and then they did layoffs. They wouldn't allow us to do overtime, but it was not physically possible to finish our workload in 40 hours. Also a ton of positions were outsourced. I was hired in the middle of tax season even though the person I'd replaced had left 8 months before, and no one had time to train me on anything, even the phones, but I still had to take calls my first week there.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to make some money so you can afford to hire people.

I worked at H&R Block full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Knowing customers through the years. Summers off (sort of).

    Cons

Management focus on selling products instead of taking consideration of what clients want or need.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of employees and develop better relationships with clients.

I worked at H&R Block (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The relationships that you build with the customers and coworkers.

    Cons

All the hoops you need to jump through to get ready for the new tax season and to only make $8 an hour. After 4 yrs of listening to hang in there you'll make more soon ...though soon didn't come soon enough ...at least for me!

I worked at H&R Block full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was an easy job. You are trained on how to complete different tax forms. There is always someone to help you if you have a problem.

    Cons

If things become slow and you are the newest employee, you are let go first. You have to sign a paper stating that you won't work for another tax company for a year, after you've worked for HR Block.

    Advice to Management

Give the new hires the opportunity to work when its slow, so that they come back with a stronger know-how for the following year.

I worked at H&R Block part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    * Flexible schedule
    * Good environment
    * Plenty of training with the option of taking on new responsibilities

    Cons

    * Some training is redundant/unnecessary (i.e. we all know why you shouldn't share personal information of clients).
    * Corporate guidelines that make force offices to call previous clients repeatedly about setting up an appointment, even those that have moved or have died.
    * When you leave, you will still get emails from H&R Block employees. I left months ago and still get bombarded with emails (and now texts) about setting up training. --> MAIN REASON FOR THE LOW RATING

    Advice to Management

    1. Have a "remove from all communications" button or form after finishing work with the company.
    2. When doing cold calls for setting up appointments, have the ability to remove profiles COMPLETELY from the future call list for that office in case of a move or death. It's very heartbreaking to hear to a widow ask why we still call about setting up appointments for their late husband..

I have been working at H&R Block part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Colleagues and clients are fantastic to work for and with.

    Cons

It does not matter whether you have worked for one year or 30 years the pay scale gets worse every year. Since Mr. Block is no longer in charge we are treated and paid like minimum wage earners.

    Advice to Management

Look after your employees and they will look after the clients and the business - without them you don't have a business.
