I have been working at HCA Virginia full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great staff to work with, flexible hours for family life, pay is good

    Cons

Not enough ability for education or advancement. Experienced employees should get paid more especially when promoted, shouldn't be base, bottom of the line pay. Many companies pay for company holidays since the business is closed. Here you have to use your person PTO which you only earn like 6 hours per pay day. Before you can take a day off for yourself or family, you have to use your PTO for a holiday (depending on the time of year). Training needs to be better as well.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to hold weekly or at least monthly huddle meetings. Communication means everything. Get to know your employees and show them the value they hold and that they are not just a number. Please find a way to look at patients as more than a head count or goal to meet. Allow the doctors to provide them the care they need without focusing on so many appointments per day. Patients wait an hour to be seen and visit lasts 5 minutes. Recognition needs to be better. It is so hard to be recognized for anything. It takes an act of Congress to get a $25 gift card for a PRIDE award. For an award that is such a big deal, make the amount larger - $100, $250 (like other businesses). These folks work so hard to take care of our patients and our fellow staff so they deserve more than a small gift card (but that's just my opinion)

I worked at HCA Virginia full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

LewisGale Hospital Montgomery, part of the HCA Virginia Market, was a Magnet recognized facility. The employees were proud of that designation and worked hard to live up to those standards daily. The work environment was friendly and cohesive. Patient care was not only excellent, it was the highest priority.

    Cons

Being a small facility, there weren't always local educational opportunities available to staff. However, I feel the administration tried to get staff out of the area for continuing education as much as possible.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work! I loved the family atmosphere and miss my dear friends there terribly. It is an inviting place to work and the patient care can't be beat!

I have been working at HCA Virginia full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The pay and location were what drew me to HCA Spotsy. This is a new facility (5 years old) with all updated equipment.

    Cons

There has been three to four full staff turnovers since the facility opened, most of this turnover is due to administration deterioration and turnover.

    Advice to Management

Take care of, support and value your staff. Do not promote people who do not possess a degree. If you have a standard for promotion maintain that standard.

    Pros

Not a safe place to work, no daytime security. CNO is a bully and appears to be running the entire hospital. We're not adequately prepared to open 12/2015. Can't handle critical cases, many patients being transferred out. The CEO needs to wake up. Good people are leaving.

    Cons

Read the pros, entered in wrong box. The pros are that there are a few nice people,

    Advice to Management

Learn who your bullies are, they do exist and I am very close to leaving. Hire a consultant to show you where improvements are needed. You hired too many upper level people from out of state who are clueless as to proper protocol is in Northern VA. Census is in the tank, marketing efforts are poor. Clearly should have hired someone local who knows the market. Why does the CNO have her hand in everything? Does the COO do anything? The CEO seems to be allowing himself to be over run by the CNO, he needs to grow a set before she destroys the hospital.

    Pros

Flexible schedules, good PTO, great co-workers

    Cons

Company does not value or attempt to retain experienced nurses. They would rather run units with new nurses to save money than pay experienced nurses what they deserve. Very dangerous for our patients!

    Advice to Management

It's cheaper to retain than continuously hire and train! Attempt to keep turnover low and patients happy & safe!
