I have been working at HCR ManorCare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Decent benefits
    Sick and Vacation time
Administrator was helpful and willing to help solve problems
Fun events for staff and residents

    Cons

    Underpaid
Not enough staff required for corporate's expectations for facility admissions
    Staff rudeness toward admissions
    picking up slack of others

    Advice to Management

Be willing to help admissions and provide coverage when possible or necessary. Half of my day was spent going on a wild chase finding housekeepers to get rooms ready that should have been done days ago for an admission. Social workers expect you to tell residents about them getting a roommate even though it's their job since admissions can't document. Nursing and most of the staff constantly have attitudes because you are doing your job aka ADMISSIONS

I worked at HCR ManorCare part-time

    Pros

Working and gaining experience in Skilled Nursing healthcare can broaden your knowledge base increase experience level for gaining better job opportunities with-in this field. There are personal rewards to feel your helping families who are seeking either temporary or permanent healthcare for a family member.

    Cons

This company has mostly one focus, it seems, that is to keep census up and to make money. There are some employees that do seem to care about the patients however not the administrators of the facility. In the Admissions Coordinator role their are many lengthy computer generated,m plus other processes to complete. If the position is only 4 hours, be aware of the workload that is extremely unrealistic. In taking a position, the workload was overwhelming due to corporate, government, insurance regulations. HCR ManorCare doesn't compensate in salary at all and the administrators are cracking the whip to get it all done in a short period of time, constant. The pressure is intense in this role, you will be running the office, coming soon, their will not be a Director of Admissions. You need to ask questions about the workload to support this information and hours of job, as this role is changing soon. The admissions director will be in marketing with-in the hospital to promote and complete referral admissions to their SNF, (Skilled Nursing Faciltiy) facility in their location. The goal is to keep census at optimal levels, make money. Be aware of the pressure and unrealistic workload now placed on the Admissions Coordinator to meet these demands, who will be the Director of Admissions as well, doing everything in a short period of time if a 4 hour time window. Another new change, coming, will be in the insurance verification which was done in the Admissions office only. This will be will be centralized at the corporate level removing this process from the Admissions office however you will still be doing it all. The Admissions Coordinator will be doing it all meaning several hours of excessive work processes one of them will take at least 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour to complete with either the family or the patient participating. This company has no clue as to the time each process takes and doesn't want to offer the salary or hours to complete each with no tolerance by the Administrator for anything less. Good luck with your new role and also be aware getting hired can also be lengthy as long as 3 weeks.

    Advice to Management

You need to place someone from Corporate in this office, of several facilities, especially a medicaid one, where admissions could be higher, for a week to get a feel for what your expecting of this office. If the hours are 4 hours for this job description being Admissions Coordinator, someone needs to see what goes on in this office for a week for 4 hours so corporate can stop wasting money on hiring especially if it takes a long time to get someone hired for this role. Your going to see a revolving door of new hires for this role, due to burnout and translates into lost time and money. You will not meet goals of keeping census up because the admissions processes will not get done fast enough. You will be wasting time retraining new people it will be a revolving door are you kidding wake up and fix the problems stated here. Rehiring personal for this office should not be your priority and census will never be optimal if you don't improve this offices unrealistic functions and expectations.

I have been working at HCR ManorCare full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are the best reason to work here. You develop a "we're in this together" survival mentality. Which is the only way you will survive this company.

    Cons

They hire you for one position but then dump work for various other positions on you in effort to eliminate "unnecessary" positions. In the end you are doing the work of 3 full time positions.

    Advice to Management

Stop wasting money on all these regional and management jobs you keep creating while eliminating positions within your facilities. If you would staff your buildings appropriately your rating and customer service satisfaction results would remain high naturally.
