I worked at HD Supply full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The starting pay for this position was great. I was offered more because of the 10 + years of experience driving all the equipment.

    Cons

The pay per hour rate was awesome however money is not everything. Because of the the understaffed Departments safety on the equipment was not enforced. The so-called 10-foot rule for equipment operators was a joke. I personally experienced 3 near hits on equipment within the first month. I was moved like a pawn to whatever Department they felt they needed help in without consideration if it was something I felt comfortable doing or not. I received very little training but was expected to perform two standards. One manager was switched to a later shift due to one of the lead managers quitting and leaving the brunt of the work for the two managers left. Unfortunately that manager was the one who could handle the pressure and would continue to be tactful and approachable even while working extremely long hours. The manager I was stuck with however did not deal with the long hours as well. She was very abrasive, unapproachable and at times was down right demeaning in her tone and words to toward the associates.

    Advice to Management

Remember that Associates are people not machines. If you talk to Associates with respect you will be respected in return. Also remember that to promote a positive work environment and a team spirit you must provide proper training and have an approachable attitude with Associates when they come to ask for help instead of being harsh and abrasive.

I have been working at HD Supply full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    No lay offs. Steady work.

    Cons

Health Insurance is awful. Rate of pay doesn't reflect the work. Expected to do a managers at lower pay rate. Company thinks of management before their employees.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate what your workers do and pay accordingly. Provide better health insurance for emploees. Don't take workers (other than managers) for granted. Reward those employees that step up and do more than they were hired for. (Like those who do the managers job more than they should).
