I have been working at HDFC Bank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Learning assistance is provided by HR learning and Development team

    Cons

Manipulative bosses, no fair approach for employees who do not know pastering and boss management. Seniors in the team ESP QIG are very insecure. This is top to bottom approach! They do not respect people and donot have basic leadership etiquettes.

    Advice to Management

Mr Puri just by sending email that there should be No manipulation and politics in team does not lead to one! Pls advise your team supervisors not to use PIP as tool to throw people out of organisation! HR is puppet of Business unit heads! Have a session organised by HR on Boss and nos management for QIG team members! Supervisors threaten team members with comment that PIP or Resign! if team member sits late then it's termed as productive person. Leaving office by 5:30pm is looked as crime! Supervisors point out that u r not enough loaded if u leave on time! Rather than focusing on work there is lot of focus on how should I (supervisor) control my subordinates? Supervisors are insecured of their designation and position!

I have been working at HDFC Bank full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Process driven, bank with one of the lowest NNPA levels in d industry, good step if wanna enter into MNC bank. But be ready for d worst.

    Cons

They make u work really hard, create un-necessary pressure and make u toil for every penny earned. Precess driven approach for everythng increased the no. of processes and hence the workload. The bank's trying to grow exponentially....but without realizing that cutting expenses on staff is not always d right option.

    Advice to Management

Take a more humanistic approach. Ur market value for employee satisfaction and retention is going down. Realise it now.

I worked at HDFC Bank full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

1.Good pay in fact one of the best pay master in banking
    2.Good trainers
    3.Very strict in compliance
4.Great place to learn operations if this is your first job

    Cons

1.Appraisal is at the whims of cluster head with min involvement of HR.If you are great in sales(read life insurance) then you can dream big,if you are avg-be happy if you still have job, below avg-best time to have another offer in hand.
2.work times extend from 8:30am to 9pm even if officially cluster head says nobody should be inside bank after 7pm.
3.Hardly 20% of staff you will see after 1 yr including BM's.This is the reason they recruit in mass during Apr & have them waiting with an offer but no clear date.
4.HR is of the worst kind. They are hands in gloves with sales top boss & keep a blind eye to all excesses.
5.Even if you have loads of CLs they will create such an environment that unless you hv done loads of sales you will think its a sin to ask for leave.
6.Nearer you are to your probation completion more the sales expected, morever there is no guarantee that they will confirm coz if they extend it for further 3 months they can force sales from you.
7.The language is the worst type i have seen, with none spared even operations staff who have loads of compliance to fill in still expected to contribute heavily in sales.
8.If you hate sales then don't work here.
9.Micro mgmt is max here.Even if there is a BM,cluster head visits twice every month & reviews performance everytime.
10.Facilities given during training was the worst i had ever seen.Even though i was a deputy mgr i had to fork out every expense from my pocket. The process of claiming back is so tedious with so many ids to create & approvals that you will be frustrated.FYI i was never able to claim my expense of 15000 of training in Kolkata during my job of 9 months.
11.They won't give expenses for mobile & fuel even though your profile is into sales.Have you ever heard this?
12.You mail to HR & she won't reply back. You call her she won't pick up.This pretty much sums up HR.
13.One of my friends lured by fat salary joined & is ruing the day coz he says he is being treated like a day labourer.Every day is a new day & every day you have to sell Life Insurance. Why don't they merge it into HDFC life?
14.My purpose is not to scare prospective employees. But to make mgmt aware of unethical practices by many of their cluster head in Orissa.
15.That particular cluster head was promoted from BM because he was able to sell toxic insurance that IRDA banned later in hoards where bank earned huge commission.so what will he do,he will be repeating his methods to rise ranks.that pretty much sums up HDFC bank HR policy.

    Advice to Management

stop recruiting people from hardcore sales industries like FMCG,consumer durables, telecom or pharma.these people are least capable in people mgmt.all they know is what you give is what you get. They won't even bat eye even if there is a brand dilution.HDFC bank may be a great bank to be customer but definitely not a great place to work. What about all those surveys you may ask in business magazines?truth is not what is perceived many times.....
