    Pros

Great potential for growth, excellent industry position, many good engineers and some good management.

    Cons

Somewhat lacking in top-level strategy and execution (but improving). Loosing some great mid-level leadership due to top-level missteps.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to keep our best leaders. Be more competitive on compensation. Get programs organized.

I have been working at HERE Technologies full-time

    Pros

No pressure to work overtime, which is fairly consistent across the company that I can see.

    Cons

Middle management does too much managing, and appears to have turf battles.

    Advice to Management

Take a good hard look at how many of you there are. You might find there are more than you need. I strongly advocate for more technical leads and fewer people with management titles.

    Pros

Great benefits package and good Entry level position. You will work with great unique individuals who have great team work skills. Excellent PTO

    Cons

Horrible clickish management, Manager is unprofessional does not treat employees like people more like pets and totally clueless has no idea whats going on, no breaks, or out for lunches, you might get the days off you want you might get denied, LOTS of favoritism, no growth, raises are not even a dollar, bonuses; taxes will be taken out of those you end up with less money than what you are supposed to get. Micromanaging is rather annoying they do it ALL the time everyday. Some people will get paid more than you. Your ideas will be turned down. Its fun at first then they will anger you

    Advice to Management

Management needs to get more training and stop acting like teenagers and stop treating their favorites like they can do no wrong. Stop acting like the world is ending when something is missed focus on what the company is good at and stop relying on competitors (Google) for a resource they are your competition. Sundays need to be closed being 24 hours is not necessary its pointless.

I worked at HERE Technologies (More than a year)

    Pros

Fun work environment, lots of multi tasking. You will learn a lot about different cloud based technologies that are at the top of their competitive market.

    Cons

Bad work hours, very difficult to get time off. If you are not used to working a scheduled shift time slot, it can be very tough to adjust to this style of work.

I have been working at HERE Technologies full-time

    Pros

    Excellent work/life balance
Solid benefits and top tier 401k
Newer technologies in use, plenty of greenfield development

    Cons

You know in Office Space where Peter has eight different bosses? It's like that, but almost worse. I have a team lead, product owner, product manager, project manger, program manager, engineering manager, scrum master, product architect, system architect, director, and quality (process) manager, all of whom may need to have a chat about my <TPS reports> and make sure they are actively bringing about their own vision of how things should be.

Career advancement is extremely limited. Many outside hires are bringing the organization down or sideways when qualified people exist internally that can invoke positive change.

Politics are everywhere. Want to develop software? Better make sure everyone's on board with your technology choices and low-level development methodologies. Some managers pedantically subscribe to trendy things and shove them down your throat and have no perspective on what is a tool in the toolbox and what is objectively the best solution at all times.

Organizationally, there is tremendous duplication of effort. Siloing is practically encouraged, and hundreds of millions of dollars go to waste because no one is properly managing the divison of labor. With the new CEO, it looks like things may be improving, but this is currently a battle for survival being fought out at the director level across multiple divisions.

    Advice to Management

Simply. The org chart is not reliable for understanding the reality of software team(s) accountability and day-to-day, talk to the people in the trenches. Give development team leads more self-determination and have faith. Become a technology company, not a bureaucracy with more layers than a croissant.

I worked at HERE Technologies as a contractor (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good work environment with decent technology development. Good benefit package including nice 401k match, medical, vision and dental.

    Cons

My experience was prior to the separation from Nokia, but at the time there were tremendous change in management ranks and continual change in direction.

    Advice to Management

Ensure that your strategy is sound and allow time to execute against it. Be sensitive to the impact of the continual changes have on employee motivation and moral.
