I worked at HERE Technologies full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good Location; Great Location Services Provider with great quality data use for autonomous driving and other navigation experiences.

    Cons

Business Strategy is not clear yet under new CEO and Leadership team.

    Advice to Management

Hire and retain the best talent not just personal friends who lack the right skills and leadership capabilities to help advance the business and drive the right business strategy.

    Pros

HERE Tech is a great school to prep you toward a role in the Auto industry or as an entrepreneur.

    Cons

Line Mgr can be closed minded and afraid of changes. Mostly understandable some have been with company for 15y+ at same stable position.

    Advice to Management

Need for more aggressive reorg is needed.

I worked at HERE Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked with some awesome people on some really interesting problems. The benefits were pretty good, with generous vacation policies (legacy of having been part of Nokia previously), and global teams led to some nice opportunities to meet and work with people you really wouldn't have otherwise.

    Cons

HR was beyond incompetent. They didn't seem to know anything about any benefits. They couldn't be counted on to reply to anything, ever. By the time I had left, they had also removed any ability to send email to HR, only allowing a ticketing system. Also, after several re-orgs, new management came in who had no respect or concern for their actual direct reporting teams. Not only were they only focussed on cutting costs (often at the expense of actually getting work done), they also thought it was reasonable to lie to their reports, about small, daily work-related things, With no respect from the top to the bottom, there is no respect in the other direction either. Shameful. Note - issues may have improved after the sale to the european car makers - I left just around that announcement.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees, demand accountability from HR, and fire clearly worthless mid-level managers.

I have been working at HERE Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Work life balance.
Still a few good people left.
    Good at marketing
Innovative work (if company comes together)

    Cons

Last good leader with a vision and ability to execute was Michael Halbherr. Lack of people with technical background in leadership team leads me to believe that non technology (sales) people are running a technology company.

Painfully slow decision making at senior and executive level, takes months to make simple decisions.

Technically skilled people moving to other opportunities leaving execution and other longer term problems for the company.

Hard to get promoted unless you network.

    Lower pay compared to industry

    Advice to Management

Flashy slideware will only help for so long, execution execution execution is the key and you lack people in senior leadership who can execute. Promote people who can execute, make decisions faster, and get products out fast. Push aside leaders and senior managers who cannot execute to deliver.

I worked at HERE Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Collegial environment within groups/teams. Global perspective. Not a sweatshop.

    Cons

Innovation and inclusion relies on management - if you have a good one, great, if not oh well. Too much bureaucratic interference from accounting and legal - ridiculous amounts of paperwork for even small initiatives.

    Advice to Management

Too many layers of management to compensate for disjointed vision. Trust your employees - if they are so untrustworthy, why did you hire in the first place?
